Can a recreation park form a select team for say 11 year olds and put all the players on the same team in an 11 and 12 rec league and play travel tournaments on off days, and allstars also. Do any parks around do this? |

Dizzy Dean is very strict with their all star teams playing travel ball. I believe the rule is that once the Dizzy Dean district tournaments start that the players cannot miss a Dizzy Dean tournament game to play travel ball and if they do they become ineligible for Dizzy Dean. I am not sure I said this right but I do know that Dizzy Dean has strict rules concerning this subject. |

In the past Rec leagues that are affiliated with Little League, Dixie Youth, etc. had participation rules that limited the number of games and playing as a team prior to all-star selection. I don’t know if those rules still apply. |

What you propose is what got a team from Florida DQ'd in Little League. You need to do what the Columbus LL team did when they went all the way. Run the weekly rec league without any thought to a select team, making sure the "draft is fair" and then put together a select team that plays weekends away from the Rec League. Allow for the select team to have players come and go as you may discover a diamond in the rough at the park. By the time your State Tournament comes around your All-Star team will be time tested. |

Most Rec programs have strict rules regarding how players are placed on teams. There are typically skills assessments done, followed by a draft where teams alternate picks. You can only protect a few players, so very tough to get a bunch of elite players on the same Rec team. The most I've seen protected are 4, but some leagues allow trades too.
Hard to do all-stars AND travel tourneys however some all star teams will play a tourney or two to warm up prior to their all star play. There is a lot of this occurring right now. By the time all stars are over, most folks are taxed out and don't do any more ball. Only a few hardcore families will play tourneys after all stars.
