As the fall baseball season comes to a close, the next 3 months is the essential time to focus on injury prevention and skill development. The Sports Rehabilitation Center (www.sportstehabcenter.com), Atlanta’s leader in orthopedic and sports physical therapy, has launched The Center for Prevention of Youth Sports Injuries (www.endsportsinjuries.com) in Brookhaven. This new first-of-its-kind Center now offers 2 programs.

The baseball injury prevention component offers a research-based program endorsed by Dr. James Andrews (see video below). This program does NOT take the place of any offseason strength and conditioning program, but compliments them. Our program is designed by sports physical therapists to offer exercises designed exclusively to mitigate overuse baseball injuries through a physical assessment, education, and training. Please watch these videos to learn more:

As you can see in the video, we have a full-sized batting cage/pitching lane with a professional mound. This set-up has allowed us to offer a live hitting academy to help improve hitting/pitching/catching performance by simulating a game environment. While tee work, front toss, and machines help skill development, nothing takes the place of getting live at-bats (this is not BP!) and we have found a way to offer each player 10-12 ABs per session. It is important to point out that we do not offer mechanical hitting instruction as most players have hitting coaches that teach different concepts to the specific player... our program gives a player an opportunity to apply what they have been taught by their hitting coaches (we would love for the coaches to come). What is offered through this program is former college and professional players who focus on the mental side of hitting so that a player has a specific approach and intent when in the batter's box. If a player wants to improve their hitting performance, keep their arm active in the off-season as a pitcher, or wants to get reps and call pitches as a catcher, then this program is for you. Please call if you have any further questions or to schedule a time to see the facility or observe the live hitting program.
