I'm curious if these rainy weekends that we've experienced so far is affecting any team's decision to go with PBR/TBS at LakePoint instead of PG. So far, I don't see any evidence of it so far and I'm wondering why. Are all of the turf fields at LP not enough of a value proposition to lure teams away from PG?

A few blown calls...fine - the human element. Checking your phone while a line drive goes over your head? Not acceptable! Not paying attention during a pick-off play or failing to move to the proper position when a ball is in play deserve scrutiny.

In my soccer world, we communicate to our assignors/supervisors the referees that simply shouldn't be out there. Shortage or not, we cannot allow the ones not capable of managing a game make everyone else look bad and contribute to the divide/bad blood that exists between referees and coaches/parents. The same should apply to baseball umpires, but sadly it doesn't seem to be. Directors of tournaments and heads of umpiring organizations need to step up and hold these bad umpires accountable.

Part of the issue is the pay, it is basically the same as it was 30 years ago. You get what you pay for. The tournaments have raised their prices like crazy over the past 5 years, ump pay has stayed the same, and thanks to Bryce Harper, behavior on the field is at an all-time low. Umps are like cops or almost any other job, after the top 10% or 20% there is a real drop off in quality.

Yay! Looks like yet another washout this weekend. If we think we have it bad just think of all the teams traveling from out of state to play.

The scoreboards at EC will never be resurrected.....

Weather is always the wildcard

PG has always sent folks all over the metro area

Umps are the heros and goats every weekend

welcome to travel ball

We have played three tournaments at Lakepoint this season. We also had bad experience with umps. My son 14u struck out, when he walked away he mumbled wasnt even close. Home plate ump said nothing, field ump all the way down first base line came in and kicked him out of game. Then lied to his coach told him he said that was a BS call. They got director and head umpire involved and head ump started yelling at my kid and coach.

Thanks for responding. I’m sure it’s tough scheduling everyone outside of LakePoint. With that said, if the logistics can’t be handled, you are letting too many teams in and should scale it back. You have a 13u team that played only completed one game, and that was on Friday night. There is no excuse you can offer to justify most teams playing three games Saturday and/or Sunday when there is a team that only got 1 game and on Friday night at that. They still spent fuel, gate fees and time three straight days. So the loss it much larger than the $675, double or more depending on how you value your weekend time.
PG was aware of this situation by lunchtime Sunday with plenty of time to take away someone’s third game to make sure everyone got at least two....PG did nothing but offer discount for future tournament. Teams don’t want discounts they want to play; discounts to “try us out again” don’t get their wasted weekend back...

Perfect Game Super 25 for the 13U was a complete mess last week, our team only got 2 games, so 675 for two games. Not Perfect Game, should be Perfect Scam. They could have found alternate fields, they didn't even try, they had their money

Unfortunately during the Super25 and Spring Fling the previous weekend, some teams were not able to get their three games as guaranteed due to field conditions and being shut down by local facilities. On a week to week basis, we do everything in our power to ensure games get played by going out to the fields, using shop-vac's to suck water off the fields, throw down turface, and work through the night as long as needed to get our fields up and going. While we go out and do these things, many facilities including the complexes and college fields we use have the final say in whether we are allowed to play, despite what amount of time it would take to get them ready. On top of this, we had several teams contact us and decided to not play their third game for the weekend as there was not enough time to play out the event under the original format. Because of the number of teams playing (nearly 200 between the two tournaments), we opted to get everyone a third game in the Super25 13U and 14U qualifiers as there were not enough facilities contracted for the weekend nor the time remaining in the weekend to play out a traditional bracket-style playoff system. We did not think it was in the best interest of our teams to cut out "X" amount of teams from the event, and play them their games and leave out the rest to dry with nowhere to play.

All teams that did not receive their guaranteed games have been contacted and credits for the unplayed games have been issued and are available to be used on another event when desired. We (Tony's group that came over from our former company) as well as the established Perfect Game staff take the welfare of our teams very seriously and will put in the effort we can to make it right for everyone. This is something that we have always done, and a big key to our past and present success in youth baseball in the Atlanta-Metro area and beyond.

-Scoreboards have continuously been addressed and we are working diligently to get them up and running very shortly. From what we understand, there is a major electrical issue that needs to be fixed.

-Regarding the format for the Super25 in the 13's and 14's: The Super25 Qualifiers have historically been formatted to have a three game guarantee to where teams will receive three pool games and then the pool winners would advance to single elimination bracket. The format should have been posted to this event, but was not on the home pages before registrations were completed (all other PG Youth and 15u-18u events brought over to PG display correctly). We will update the subsequent qualifiers and national championships accordingly here in the next week.

We apologize for what we were dealt with, but unfortunately mother nature continues to deal us bad hands on what seems like a near weekly basis.

If you have not been contacted regarding last weekend or would like to speak to someone, please feel free to reach out to us anytime M-F 8am-4pm, and anytime during the weekend we have an event being played.

There were teams in that tournament (two in 13U alone) that only played ONE game!
Look it up
That isn’t the weather screwing you, it’s the tourney directors. They had ample time to make sure everyone played at least two games...

This last Sunday, during winners bracket semi's @ LP, our tournament director came to notify us of a 2pm start time. It was around 1:40pm, which should have give us 20 more minutes to prepare. 5 Minutes later the umpires walk up and shout "Game clock already running coach". Obviously didn't start us out on the right foot. They were threatening to throw our coach out the second he asked for them to check start time with the tournament director. 3 blown calls and 1 inning into the game our head coach was tossed.

Same umpires were involved in an altercation the previous night, walking by our group of kids afterwards swearing up a storm. I think we could have taken the blown calls for what they were, it happens all the time, but their previous behavior and blatant bias against our coach was asinine. The cherry on top was their threat to throw our team manager out for allegedly texting with the head coach, which they had 0 proof of.

Oh yes the umpire definitely hit the coach in the face and admitted to doing so! TBS did nothing!! They let him finish umping the game! What message does this send you f players? Another team dropped out of the tournament Saturday evening because of their interactions with TBS. TBS and PBR are separate entities. It is a shame that LakePoint and PBR allow TBS to represent them in this manner.
Dunlapjc Posted - 05/09/2019 : 21:17:39
Yes the umpire absolutely did hit the coach in the face with his mask and admitted doing so. TBS did nothing to the umpire and he was allowed to finish umping the game. What message does this send to young athletes? Another team dropped out of this tournament Saturday evening because of the treatment they experienced from the TabS director. TBS and PBR are separate entities. It is a shame that PBRand LakePoint allow TBS to represent their facility in this manner.

ECB scoreboards don't work and Umpires have been subpar all season. Not that there are better tournaments, but for what these teams play and what they get it's not a value.

Are you saying the ump HIT the coach in the face? Assault charges should have been filed.

Question is, are we blending two completely separate orgs here? Is it PBR staff? Or is it TbS staff? I believe these two are mutually exclusive, however I could be wrong. I do know the 'face' of TbS (from his videos on social media, and seeing him around previous TbS events), and I find it hard to believe he would defend an umpire physically assaulting a coach during one of his events...

A TbS rep is a member of this forum, maybe they will chime in to give 'the other side of the story'....

Who is PBR using for umpires? What is calls, not knowing rules, attitude?
Boomstick Posted - 05/08/2019 : 16:05:02
I like Lakepoint but not a fan of the PBR folks. One of their umps threw out a coach without provocation on Sunday - absolutely not one word had been uttered by the coach before this point. (The coach threw his hands up in disbelief, but as soon as he took one step to home plate, he got tossed. No warning, and no justifiable action by the coach for doing so). That ump subsequently made contact with that coach’s face in anger with his mask when the coach arrived at home plate to question why he was getting tossed. When fans asked PBR to remove the Ump as well, the PBR guys indicated they had no reason to do that and that what was being alleged simply didn’t happen. When they were asked to go take a look at their cameras so they could view for themselves because their assertions were incorrect, they stated they had no cameras. (There was at least one security camera in the area just behind the field In question - that is verifiable by anyone as they’re in plain sight.)

In the grand scheme of things, “it’s just a baseball game”, but the ump did not act professionally. Don’t buy the hype that the umps are better at PBR than PG, and don’t believe that PBR gives a hoot once they have their check. That particular umpire doesn’t have the temperament for the job, and the PBR message was “It never happened.” Quite a number of folks watching beg to differ.

We had a terrible experience with PBR this pst weekend at LakePoint. It is the second tournament we have experienced bad umpires and TbS staff that refused to deal with any issues. We had two teams drop out mid tournament because of the staff treatment. Facility is beautiful, it is a shame how it is being run.

I'm seeing several teams switch from PG to PBR for the upcoming weekend.
baseball713 Posted - 05/06/2019 : 22:50:22
Not to mention having an actual working scoreboard at LakePoint... The only thing better at East Cobb is the concession food. And as turntwo said, it’s a crapshoot if you get to play at East Cobb as opposed to Cummings.
Tball Posted - 05/06/2019 : 17:48:29
We played PBR this weekend. Not only was it great to play after a heavy rain, but the communication and umpires were far superior to PG.

Great question... And one I'm wondering myself. Several I've spoken to have two concerns: quality of competition, and location.

Both of which are a mute point when you play in a PG event at "East Cobb" only to find out you're playing anywhere from Cartersville to Doraville. AND, fix the competition issue by signing up, or penciling in and see if you're not the first domino that falls...
