Overview of Georgia Raptors 13u Baseball:
Q: Tell me your situation and what are you looking for on the Georgia Raptors? A: The Georgia Raptors are entering their 5th year of travel baseball competition. The team practices out of the City of Cumming - City Park complex. The team competed well at the High AAA level during 2011. Most of the games played by the team were in Metro Atlanta Tournaments with 2 trips out of the metro area to play (Aberdeen,MD and Auburn, AL). A core group of families have played together for the entire 5 year period. In 2011, the team demonstrated a winning record against the top 10 AAA teams in the state of Georgia (as ranked by an unsanctioned website poll derived by a grouping of regional coaches) and several USSSA Major games. We have a minimum of two openings on the team and are looking for primarily kids with pitching experience and position flexibility. Historical details about the team can be found at www.georgiaraptors.com
Q: What can you tell me about your coaching philosophy? A: We play the kids who have committed to our team with an eye toward development that will hopefully prepare them to complete and succeed in pursuit of spots on their respective High School teams. Unless there is an injury, or a player has been dismissed for breaking team rules, we will not add players. While winning is important, development is the team’s primary goal.
Q: What is your and your staff experience coaching? A: John McCarthy, Team Head Coach/Manager has been coaching travel baseball for 7 years. John is assisted by two volunteer coaches and a paid professional coach, Pete Geist. Pete played collegiately for Georgia Tech in the 1980’s and enjoyed a brief professional career in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. Pete has greater than 10 years of travel baseball coaching experience with the Roswell travel program and East Cobb Baseball program. Pete has coached a large number of kids who have gone on to play collegiately.
Q: How do I get in touch with the team to talk to Coach McCarthy and are you having tryouts? A: At this time, we are not having open tryouts; however, we are trying individual kids out that have an interest in becoming a Raptor and reach out to Coach McCarthy to discuss their abilities and individual needs. Coach McCarthy can be reached at 678-878-0285 or by email at johnfmccarthy@me.com
