Hosting a Tourney:

You have to be asked and accept before you can HOST a tourney...TD's would like to schedule and recruit teams, get ground crews set up, make sure trophies are good, parents would like to plan gate duty before getting off work early, missing a kids game, picking up trash after the last game and of course my favorite now, Fence Jumpers, ...!!! LMAO

Wake up... get real, whatever...

THIS WILL BE THE 3RD TIME UP THERE THIS YEAR ONCE WE WERE LOOKING GREAT TO MAKE THE FINAL FOUR. TOP TWO PITCHERS AT THAT TIME WITH ALL THERE INNINGS REMAINING. AND THEY DIDNT MAKE IT OUT OF THE 2ND INNING. BUT THATS 11 YEAR OLD BASEBALL. AS FOR THIS WEEKEND THERE NOT NOTHING EASY WHENEVER YOU ARE ONLY PLAYING WITH 9 KIDS YOU HAVE TO DO ALOT OF MOVING KIDS AROUND WE ARE STARTING TO ADJUST.OUR TOP PITCHER AND PROBALLY THE BEST 3RD BASEMEN IN THE SATATE HAS HAD ARM TROUBLE FOR THE LAST MONTH AND HAS OFFICALLY BEEN SHUT DOWN FOR THE SEASON.AND THEN WE HAD ANOTHER KID LEAVE TO GO GET SOME OF THAT GREEN GRASS. SO NOTHING WILL BE EASY WE WILL PLAY AND HAVE FUN BECAUSE IT IS 11 YEAR OLD BASEBALL.

You got me on that one. I wasn't thinking clearly and by that I mean wasn't thinking about it being U-Trip. They have two recent additions I've heard but neither are eligible to play in this tourney. LOL, I may be wrong on that as well.

Now if I'm able to revise I'll just stick with the top FOUR with one of them winning that top slot. Ga. Sting but still worried about the loss of two of their top players, Gamers if came to play or the Valdosta team would be one of my picks for the five slot.

Playing with 9 is tough and in 11U baseball you never know what will happen. Third time up is good. That's alot more than you guys made it up in all past years combined. You guys have some great talent and always have. All I said without using all caps was that it's my belief that you play as well as the competition you play on a more consistent basis. Meaning if you play in opens with 2a and 3a you will sink slowly to that level. If you play in majors with the higher ranked major teams you'll rise or at least the coaches and kids that have the drive to rise will rise to the occasion and will become better for it.

With arm problems like you mentioned I wouldn't think they could make it out of the second inning. "right"? You are right about nothing being easy and it's how you handle the bracket games as opposed to the pool games that matters in the end and for that matter, the bracket play is all that matters. When you have teams that are deep in pitching and position players you have the chance to move people around more and can afford to lose in pool games and not be worried come bracket play.

Wish we could be there to see some of the tournament but that's not the case this week.
p.s. If you guys combine with OTC for next year you'd secure a spot in the top five in any tournament I believe. Not just my opinion but I've heard that from people from six or seven other teams.

So "play to win and have fun" because it is 11 yr. old baseball.

I was basing the comment on the Ga. Blues on what I heard from two of their top players. They've always been a team full of grinders who will do what it takes from start to finish or in my opinion they have been. So you're right, there is nothing easy about it.

What did my post have to do with EC, they're not in this tournament right. In pool play many teams have lost games they should or could have won. I know that's it's up to the kids and coaching as to the outcome of the game but don't forget the occasional blunder by the umps as well.

What I did was make a prediction as to the top five and now top four because I forgot about it being U-Trip and two new pick-ups by the Jays not being eligible to play or at least I believe I'm right on that. A prediction on this board has nothing to do with what actually happens on the field or for that matter who I would like to see win the tournament. Was also trying to get Red Gamers to open up on the board a little and have fun other than just posting to recruit which he did but his caps key must've gotten stuck. LOL

Relax and have fun (parents). The kids on the Gamers are great kids and they have a lot of talent. Love to see them rise to the top but they have to be pushed just as their coaches do. For the kids on the team and any other team "play to win and have fun or have fun while playing to win because it's not just 11u baseball it's 11u Major level baseball."

There is no such thing as easy games, correct me if im wrong but i seen the E.C. Astros play some games they should of dominated and end up tying or losing to games . The greatest thing about this game is you have to cross those white lines and play, nothing is given to you, its up to the kids and not the dads to say who is going to win. Let the boys play because its all about the kids right? Good luck to all this weekend and have fun boys....

itsbaseball,

The question meant you no disrespect so I don't believe you need to dish it out towards me or anyone else. This is a blog where questions should be allowed to be asked. If you were not asked to host then have them remove your coaches email and contact information from the ECB site as the host. I am wide awake.

C'mon. It is a forum where you can ask questions. Doesnt entitle you to an answer you want. Ask your questions but everyone is free to answer any way they want. Let's not be so touchy. Maybe he doesn't want to say or really expected you knew the answer already. Either way, read a little forum history and find out quick that trashing the Astros is a pretty regular thing. So don't be to quick to throw out the WOAH!! card. He gave you an answer that maybe you didn't understand. Most I think did. How about you just pick a winner from the teams that ARE playing? Back on that topic. I will go 643. Watch warriors, sting, and RBI for top four.

LOL, I promise I wasn't drinking and I did have my glasses on but I was unaware that I was picking the 10u Blue Jays until I got to the park and watched them play tonight. I had my coworker / one time "I got your back" buddy, relay me who playing in the tourney when I posted the earlier picks.

Worse than that I overlooked Big Dawg's post that I had chosen the 10u Jays. All I saw as I read through it quickly was the Jays part, still thinking about 11u. I think my problem is that I'm stressing and not drinking enough of late.
LOL

I'm going with 643 as well if I have to narrow it down.

Sting are impressing me so far with the loss of two of their top players and still pecking away. Then again they play against top teams quite a bit and have very solid coaching with a nice core group of talent as well. Love the coaching and parents in their group.

I see teams come in with over half their roster being made up of what some of you would consider to be top tier major talent and the other half being made up of some very good athletes who are going to bust onto the scene hard in the next two years as they mature.

I hate to see them lose games because of base running whether due to the coaching or whatever. Someone said yesterday "our coach cost us that one but the other one was becuase the kid didn't get a big enough lead". All relates back to the coaching. If it's a kid that's afraid to extend his lead or get a nice secondary then why would you steal third to begin with.

I'm just saying I hate to see them throw a game away when they definately had the other team down and should've won. Out hit them, out pitched them, but lost what could have been a couple of rallying innings due to baserunning.

Seen some good ball today. I will have to go with the warriors. I was thinking it was going to RBI but the gamers but on a hitting clinic against them. Then gamers had 643 it was a close game with 643 out lasting the gamers 5 to 4. Great game i will give it up for the gamers playing with 9 all weekend. They were scappy. I cant wait till tomorrow it should be fun. What do you think 643 and warriors in the championship?

Congrats Alpharetta for winning the U-trip State. Saw you guys play some awesome baseball this weekend as well as many others.

My top four didn't make it. The Gamers put one of them out in RBI and Valdosta slid in there so three of four wasn't bad with my top pick coming in third.

Great baseball all around though for sure.

Great job hitting against RBI and putting up some huge numbers. Also good job against 643 even though they came out on top.

Maybe I'll get the top four right next time. LOL, I doubt it.

Great showing by the Alpharetta Warriors this weekend against some good Major level competition. It looks like they were firing on all cylinders outscoring their opponents 55-14 over 6 games. I know they can hit, but the pitching and defense is coming together also. They are probably the hottest team right now in 11u Major with their showing at T of C last weekend and now USAAA State championship.

Congratulations to all the teams. A few points that caught me. This topic was 11u Georgia state. Nearly the first topic was instead of who is playing and what do you think was why aren't the Astros playing and if they're hosting where are they. Oh well like BWV said - it is a poll and you have the right to say pretty much anything that the moderator will allow.

I get tired of the ECB or in this age Astro bashing. The toilets a few months ago was a legit problem and please please get some new scoreboxes and monitor who uses them somehow so they want get trashed.

ATK 10u Blue Jays not 11u Blue Jays. I'll take whatever it was you were drinking or errrrrr whatever it was.

Red Gamers. The poster was right and we all hope to see your team on the northside even more for one reason only. Better competition and larger tournaments on a whole. No reason to be defensive about it. We had the chance to play with one of your southside rivals but chose not to in either age group. I spoke in depth with one of your coaches early in the season about trying out for your team but my job took me to far north Georgia after I thought I had settled south of your area.

Cobb Mom I thought RBI was going to take the Red Gamers team to but you are right they did hit the ball well. Not bad for the Red Gamers this weekend with a 2 - 3 record playing against quality teams.

RBI I thought was going to go deep in this tournament but it wasn't in their cards. Spoke to one of their parents and parents on three other teams there and they all have players with what sound like ucl injurys in their throwing arms. Maybe it's the number of games they play or pitch over the long haul. I hated to hear that.

Time to get off of here and there was definately some pretty good baseball this weekend.

Was a great tournament, congrats to the Warriors who looked awesome this weekend. They hit the ball better than i seen any team hit this year. They had a kid go opo on field 6 i think and hit the 265 wall, very impressive. I would of liked to see OTC in it and some more teams but it is what it is. I think the game that shocked everyone was the Gamers crushing RBI 13-1, and almost pulling off a huge upset in beating 6-4-3. Good luck to all the team who will compete in a world series and represent the State of Georgia well and best of luck.

THANKS GUYS WE HAD A GOOD TIME THIS WEEKEND. WE PLAYED GOOD AT TIMES AND AT TIMES WE MADE SOME 11 YEAR OLD MISTAKES. VERY PROUD OF MY TEAM STEPPING UP WHEN IT COUNTED. WHEN YOU ARE PLAYING SHORT HANDED IT DOES MAKE IT HARD. AGAINST 643 WE WERE DOWN TO 8 1/2 PLAYERS MY CATCHER COULD NOT THROW AT ALL. SO I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THERE PERFORMANCE AND THE LEVEL OF COMPETITON. THIS WAS OUR 4TH TOURNAMENT UP ON THE NORTHSIDE THIS YEAR THATS PLENTY AND MORE TOURNAMENTS I MIGHT AS WELL SELL MY SOUL AND PLAY OUT OF ECB. WE LOOK FORWARD TO PLAYING DOWN IN GULF SHORES AND THEN TRYING TO PUT SOMETHING TOGETHER TO COMPETE WITH THE WARRIORS AND TEAMS LIKE THAT.

This was a great tournament and congrats to both the Warriors and JCS for making it to the championship game. I believe they had to play each other 3 times in the tournament and the Warriors were certainly a team on fire. Alpharetta had some tremendous pitching throughout. I agree with Yardball that the biggest shocker was the Gamers route of RBI who seemed to struggle this tournament overall. Also, the Sting were a bit of a surprise as well with their pool tie to the Hooks and number of runs scored against them in a couple of their games. 643 played pretty well and ran into a surging JCS team in the semi's who had a very good tournament.

The Warriors played great baseball all weekend and earned the USSSA Georgia State Championship! Congratulations! When that team plays the way they played this weekend they can compete with any team in the country.

Congratulations to JCS on a very nice run making to the championship and to the Gamers showing a lot of guts battling for every out! Great group of kids, coaches and families.
