I missed where someone made insinuation from this post that the Atlanta Angel's coaches say things to get into the head of the opposition's kid's heads. It sounds like you and biglucy13 are on the same page?

You are correct, the 9U Angels have an X on their back and well deserved respect every time they hit the field. I hope you guys play more in your age group next year instead of playing up most of the year. I understand the importance to push your team but there are many same aged teams that enjoy the level of play your boys bring!
Good Luck for the rest of the year!

The insinuation from this post is that the Atlanta Angel's coaches say things to get into the head of the opposition's kid's heads. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Angels players go into every game with a huge X on their backs. Every game they play they are expected by observers to play perfectly and win. They get the oppositions best efforts and perform admirably consistently. The Atlanta Angel coaches ARE trying to get into the head of nine year old players...the Atlanta Angel players. They constantly reminding them that although almost everyone at the park is waiting for you to lose you can win. They are encouraged to believe that all the work they have put in will result in success, in a sport where failure is the norm. And they are expected to perform at a high level while not expected to play perfectly. The antics of our coach may be hated by others but it's brilliant in it's design. All the pressure and hatred is deflected off the kids and on to the coach. The coaches or fans never address or defame children on the opposition's team, as we don't expect this to happen to our kids either. The Atlanta Angels don't need to get into the heads of their opposition for an advantage. Their bats, gloves, pitching and intelligence are enough to compete with the best 9U teams in the country. We look forward to representing Georgia well in the Travelball Select World Series next week as well as at the Elite 32. And we will be cheering loudly for all the Georgia teams!

I just don't get why a team should play in their age if they are not being pushed by anyone. How many teams have beaten the Angles this year in their age group in ga? 2 that's all. If anything they should play more 10u games to push them. If the other teams what to play with them go where they play. Seems as thou some are chasing the Angles not the other way around. I don't have a dog in this race but seems like some want to give credit to any team that beats the Angles once. None have beat them on a consistent basis. Well I think the coaching staff has done what needs to be done to keep this group of young men sharp and it shows every time they step on the field.

C. Morton..

you hit the nail on the head we play up for the simple fact to push our kids against teams where we are not the odds on favorite. we have found since we were 6u and playing 7u that our kids respond to that type of pressure very well. Does that mean that there is no compettition at 9U NOT AT ALL...but for us to continue to set new goals for our kids and not become complacent we choose to play up. Nor does it mean that we feel we are better than other 9u organizations it is just a choice we have madae for our team. Again we are not in this just for trophies or to claim we have won some many games and so forth we want to give our kids the most competitive environment possible.

The funny thing is... that there are several kids that play up individually and they are considered "STUDS" we play up as a team and we are considered show offs...and even when we do play up we are competitive and most 10U teams still give us one of there ACES on the mound..

Does this mean our way is the only way of course not...Each coach, team and parent decides on the directions for their players and only hope their decision pans out. But you will never catch me or any of our parents telling anyone else that their way is wrong and the "ANGELS WAY" is right. I think for the most part the travel ball community has the same goal and theat is to produce fine young men that love this GAME and to play it at their highest possible level...

I never said not play up and applaud any teams drive to get better! The Angels coaches have done a great job and continue to push their team to get better and play up as needed. It is just fun to watch them play in their age group. These 9U players walk on the field weekend after weekend seeing the best pitching and handling pressure in every 9 or 10U tournaments because they are the Angels. I am just looking forward to the 10U competition across the board next year as everyone recruits and reloads for the 2012-2013 season.

3up there are certain teams that seek out the best teams they can find. The 13u Bandits play every Super Nit they can find and the tournaments that they know teams will push them. Even then they are still beating teams easily, but they do lose from time to time. If the Angles are beating most of the teams at their age they aren't going to get much better if they are winning all their games. They are looking at the light at the end of the tunnel and not just the doorway.

New to posting but is it just me or are some folks taking themselves WAY too seriously here in 9 u baseball? Will be interesting to see which kids still choose baseball as their first sport in a few years -and which world class coaches are still around in a few years.

Well this is where it starts for some and yes I think everyone in the state take it pretty serious. If we didn't we would be playing the game.

GA is a baseball state for sure but when adults write " that is why "we" play the game" it lends itself to concern. Aren't the kids playing the game? The coaches are there to guide them? Not " get in head of opponents", ?? umm, ok??
In my hunble opinion, there are too many coaches and parents trying to prove something from their past glory days or lack there of and it's pretty sad.
There are some great baseball players and teams out there at 9U, look forward to next season!

456 there may be some coaches and parents that do these type things. Coaches yell across the field from third to first base runners. 1st base coaches yelling at the top of their lungs watch his pick off move over and over again. Coaches trying to make a pitcher balk. Parents chanting while the other team is batting of pitching. Saw some this past weekend. I even seen parents get into the heads of their own children and the child is no good the rest of the game. So there it is. Some of us enjoy watching our kids play ball. OUR kids play the game for a reason. Cause THEY want to!!!!!

I used the term "WE" as it refers to our team...so if you want to play the pronoun game and used that as parents and coaches are taking things too seriously...then go ahead... It amazes me that if a team is successful then they take the game too seriously but if you are middle of the road or on the lower end of the win column...the coaches are teaching the game the right way... News flash if you play travel ball at this age group or younger one could make an argument that you take this game too serious. WE don’t comment on the decisions or practices that other teams use to make their kids better or how they operate. But some ...not ALL seem to feel that because we have had some success early that it is ok to take shots at how we do it. The key is hard work and quality reps reps reps reps and more reps....

ATL DEE-

Not taking shots at any team. Found the post written about "getting into players heads" and " all the hatred and pressure is deflected off the players on the coaches" to be really strange and absurd.
Everyone can and should coach as they wish. Families and players have the freedom to switch team if the coaching style is too laid back or too intense for their player. Harder to switch teams in certain areas but in East Cobb or other areas there are so many choices. To each his own.
