PrepStar Elite Baseball, a 13U travel baseball team based out of Cobb County / Smyrna, is seeking players interested in long-term development from 13U through 17U designed to maximize each player’s opportunity to play college baseball.

Tryouts will be held on July 21st at Whitefield Academy in Mableton, GA from 9AM to Noon. There is no cost for the tryout.

Team advisor and Coordinator Mike Shaheen, varsity head baseball coach at Whitefield Academy who formerly coached at Wesleyan High School, will lead the staff and along with Head Coach Desmond Atwell who has served as the assistant baseball coach at Riverwood High School since 2001.

In his 8 years at Wesleyan, Shaheen coached 17 Division 1 college baseball players and several D2/D3 players. His coaching style is focused on holistic training and player development. During his coaching career, he has developed strong relationships with many college coaches, which have benefited his players as they advanced beyond high school and into their college careers.

Coach Atwell has coached high school, middle school and travel baseball teams in the Atlanta area since 2001. He also currently serves as a scout for Perfect Game where he identifies talent to be recommended to college and professional baseball coaches. From 2007 to 2010, Coach Atwell also held the position of associate scout for the Cincinnati Reds in the Atlanta metro area.

Coach Shaheen and Coach Atwell will create a customized development plan for each player designed to improve their baseball skills. The coaches will also meet with the players and parents throughout the season to measure each player’s progress towards their development plan.

Weekly practices will begin in September 2018 and will continue throughout the course of the season until June 2019. Practices will include weekly outdoor team and positional practices as well as individual instruction with professional coaches at Pinnacle Prospects, the premier indoor facility in Cobb County.

Pinnacle’s professional staff in conjunction with our coaches will run the indoor practices at Pinnacle Prospects. Each session will have hitting, pitching, fielding, catching and strength and conditioning stations and will ensure that the team never misses out on practice time due to poor weather.

Professional recruiting services will be provided throughout high school by PrepStar, which will create a personalized recruiting profile for each player on the team.

If interested, please send your son’s information to pstarbaseball@gmail.com and we will contact you with further details about the tryouts.

For anyone that wants to attend the meeting, it might be a little boring for your son to attend. The coaches will be walking everyone through a detailed plan for the team ...not fun stuff for kids. Besides, they will probably want to watch the HR Derby anyway!!!!

Just a quick reminder that we are holding an informational meeting at Whitefield Academy tonight at 7PM. If you are coming, please enter the Whitefield campus off of Buckner Road and drive all the way through campus and park near the campus store. I will be outside the store to direct you to the meeting room.

Unlike a lot of programs that talk about development, we are going to deliver on the promise. Our coaches will work with each player and his parents to create an individual development plan that will become a roadmap for the upcoming season. Throughout the year, you will meet with the coaches to evaluate your players progress towards his goals and adjust the plan as necessary. No more guessing about where your son stands with his coach.

One last thing - while our player assessment is scheduled for this Saturday, we can make special accommodations for those players that cannot attend on Saturday. Just let me know and we will work it out.

Once again, don't hesitate to send you questions to pstarbaseball@gmail.com.

I am so glad that you found the meeting useful. Our coaches are looking forward to the player assessments on Saturday morning. As of right now, there are about 20 players that are trying out for the team but we would like more! Please don't hesitate to pass along our information to anyone that you know that is looking for a developmental opportunity for their sons with highly credentialed coaches. At the major academies in Atlanta, you rarely have a clue who the coaches are before practices start. Those programs are mostly selling the name on the jersey and the quality of your experience may or may not be worthy of the $. We are trying to change that model.

Concept sounds amazing - Any insight into what level of play you are going for initially? Specifically - what tournaments are you targeting (Southern Sports/ Grand Slam or Triple Crown/Perfect Game)?

CobbBaller - Great question! Based on the quality of players that we have either already assessed or have shown interest in the team, we will definitely be playing in Triple Crown and PG tournaments. We anticipate the team competing favorably with other AAA teams out of the gate but we strongly believe that our professional staff of coaches and our relationship with Pinnacle Prospects is going to accelerate our players' development much quicker than would be possible other teams.

And we got some other good news on Monday. Coach Tim Turner, who coached Whitefield Academy's middle school team last year and who is on the varsity staff for the upcoming season, has signed on as an assistant coach for the Fall. Our coaches have over 30 years of coaching experience which is almost unheard of for a 13U baseball team. When we talk about development, it isn't just something that we will print on a t-shirt. We have the staff to make it happen!

One more thing: we are going to hold an assessment tomorrow night at 6PM at Whitefield Academy for any interested player that cannot make our assessment on Saturday morning.

Pstarbaseball, will we need to bring anything special tonight? You did confirm that I can leave my checkbook and wallet home as there are no fees for this tryout, however, do you need a report card, birth certificate or proof of age? Is there a registration form that we need to fill out?

You only need to bring your son and his equipment to the assessment tonight! There is no charge whatsoever since this isn't a fundraiser for our team. We are looking for players and families that want to be a part of a truly developmental program.

I will have a player information form to fill out at the beginning of the session but that's it.

Come out and see us...I think that you will be impressed with what we have to offer!
