GEORGIA TRAVEL LEAGUE, A NEW, DIFFERENT TYPE OF TRAVEL BASEBALL LEAGUE

Our Mission
This past Fall, the Georgia Travel League piloted a successful soft launch which was a new kind of Travel League. Other leagues have formed and folded over the years. None really survive, however we at Georgia Travel League have put together the winning formula. Gary Cooper and Greg Blitz founded Georgia Travel League as we have constantly been reminded how there needs to be a league for A to AA Travel teams to play in. We hear this at every tournament RBI Tournaments (www.RBItournaments.com) hosts, so now we are proud to make this idea into a reality. This Spring we are ready to serve YOU and grow this league.

Scope
We understand what travel teams are seeking and are sensitive to those needs. During the Spring, you want mid-week games, fair scheduling, fair rules, competitive games, non-biased umpires, and games all within close-proximity.

The Georgia Travel League will have NO weekend games, as games will be played on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays during the Spring. This will give teams the ability work players around various positions, give other players that are not receiving as much playing time in tournaments more opportunities to play and ability to work with pitchers more. These games count, however, they are not tournaments where winning is the main objective. Teams will play a 12 to 14 game schedule and post season play is a part of the plan as well. 1st and 2nd place teams will receive awards with the #1 team in each age group receiving championship belts.

Our Plan
The Spring schedule will consist of 14 games. Age groups from 8U to 14U are eligible to play. 15U will be considered if enough there is enough interest. You have 2 Options when Registering: Option A is all inclusive where we do all the scheduling of games, scheduling of umpires, pay umpires, provide awards. Option B is where each team schedules the umpires and pays for the umpires. Keep in mind, umpire associations are not easy to contract out and our organization has contracts with several associations in the North Atlanta area. If a team schedules umpires, it must be for the entire season and if umpires do not show up for a game, then the home team forfeits. Coaches or parents filling in as umpires will not count. Costs for Options A and B are in the Registration process.

Teams will not have to travel on a weeknight to, say for example, the North Georgia Mountains. Teams will come from Cherokee, Dawson, Lumpkin, Gwinnett, Forsyth, North Fulton, and Hall Counties. Teams from further out can play but their games will be road games unless the other teams do not mind traveling. As we complete the soft launch and head into the Spring with the full launch of Georgia Travel League, we will consider expanding into the southside of Atlanta for teams wanting to play in that area.

No major teams will be in this league as it will focus on matching A to AA level teams in one division and AAA teams in another division. If not enough AAA teams sign-up, then either all the teams in that division will need to approve the AAA team playing down or they can play up an age group in the lower division. Again the idea is to make the games fair and as competitive as possible.

Our service will be centred around YOU - the coaches. We strive to provide the best experience and the best service possible. We understand umpires will make bad calls and games may not end in a manner you sometimes desire. We’ll have a panel made up of coaches that will constantly review rules and provide feedback so we stay in touch with our customer, the coaches, players and parents.

Scheduling
How does scheduling work? Each team will complete a registration process and include any blackout dates. Each team will receive equal amount of home and away games. You let us know which days you can play, the park you play out of and we’ll create the scheduling. Teams will need to work with their booster club or Park and Rec Administrator to confirm dates you can play.

Why Georgia Travel League?
Can anyone form a travel league? Yes, but not everyone has the background, knowledge and experience to make this successful. We plan on doing all the administrative work where teams can focus on playing ball.
