Many parents discuss technical details on this board, but we don't hear enough about the inner workings of these organizations. Details that often separate the good from the great and the bad from the ugly.

Based upon some mixed experiences in another baseball market we've learned to ask some of the tough questions on the front end. We have found that great youth sports organizations are normally happy to be transparent and have a system that spells all the details...from the costs, to communications, to player expectations.

1.) Do you have an open door policy and welcome occasional questions from parents about scheduling practices or how money is allocated?

2.) Is full financial transparency available to those writing a check and/or making a huge commitment of their time to your program? IOW can the customers see exactly where all the money is going...to whom and to which tournaments, etc.? If sponsors, are those details available to the team?

3.) Are roster spots guaranteed for a season once a player makes your team? Or is a player constantly subject to new outside talent being auditioned? This is an important consideration for development. In Texas, some teams are notorious for a constantly evolving roster.

4.) How far do you travel? What's the approximate percentage of tournaments in Georgia or the Metro Atlanta area?
