The 12U Cherokee Reds – Black team for the 2017/2018 season will be having tryouts at Barnett Park (10795 Bells Ferry Road, Canton GA 30114) on the following dates.

Saturday, July 15th 9:00 AM – 12:00 pm
Tuesday, July 18th 6:00 - 8:30 pm
(Rainout date: Saturday July 22nd)

Field Location: Front Field at Barnett Park
*A release waiver will need to be signed before your child is allowed on the field.
**Catchers please bring your gear
*** No fee for trying out

We have a Cooperstown Certificate (Reds tradition to attend) and will compete at the AAA level.
The 12U Reds-Black team will build on the success of the 11U team who went from 5th in the nation in USSSA AA rankings to be promoted to AAA this Spring with 2 tournament wins and 2 runners up for the season.

The Reds are the longest standing travel baseball organization in Cherokee County with a strong history of fielding competitive teams in a family friendly environment, and building our young players skills and character. As a non-profit organization, budgets are reasonable as well with several sponsors.
Practice will be at both Barnett Park in Canton as well as an indoor facility in Woodstock.

Please contact Dan Maurer (dan.maurer01@yahoo.com or 678-925-1120) for more information or go to www.Cherokeeredsbaseball.org

To provide some more information about questions from interested parents we have received.
1) Expected Fall Schedule - we are a multi-sport friendly team, and encourage it at this age for a players full development. In the Fall we play Sunday only events, and likely about 5 tournaments. We will practice 2 week nights during the week at Barnett Park in Canton.
2) Practice locations and schedule - The Reds practice exclusively at Barnett Park. It is our dedicated facility so we decide when we practice and for how long, compared to other teams renting field time. Barnett Park has undergone several upgrades in the past year, and will continue upgrades this season. We also have secured an indoor facility in Woodstock. We practice 2 nights per week, and when not playing on the weekend occasionally we will practice then too (this is unusual in the Spring). We are conscious and cautious of overuse injuries at this age and monitoring pitch counts very closely.
3) Expected travel distance - we will play nearly all of our tournaments in the North GA area within 1 hour of Canton/Woodstock. Playing in tournaments in close proximity will be even more of a focus for this upcoming season which will ease the burden on parents and reduce cost. There is plenty of strong competition in North GA.
4) Our team instructor will be Brian Blough, formerly of the White Sox minor league organization and Kennesaw State, and has coached at the Majors level for ECB. Additionally the coaches of this team (Dan Maurer and Nate Hardison) have a combined of over 20 years of coaching experience.
5) Cooperstown costs - We expect to have much of this funded through sponsors and fund raising. We are seeking parents/families who want to be actively involved in the team.

The Cherokee Reds have been fielding competitive travel baseball teams for over 20 years and are well known across the Southeast. We are a non-profit organization so the annual cost is significantly lower than the "for profit" private travel baseball organizations. Reds players have gone on to play D1 college and even MLB ball. We will field 10 teams for this upcoming season from 7U to 13U.
