While most sanctions have canceled for the month USSSA is still considering playing Super NIT in Atlanta this weekend as of this past Saturday. Just curious how the majority feels about teams having to recommit a full week before the tournament in this fluid situation that changes hour by hour. Is this irresponsible by USSSA or are they doing us a service keeping this large tournament afloat for now. Is it pointless and will it get shutdown anyway?

Some good discussion on this dead forum.

I hope it gets played. This is one of the biggest tournaments of the year for 12 and under. I think USSSA is doing us a service by allowing this event to proceed. Just my opinion.

While it would probably be great for the kids (and most stir-crazy adults) to get out there and play, the best decision is probably to cancel these events for a few weeks. By all accounts, the spread is expected to increase, and keeping everyone safe is most important right now.

I too would love to have tournaments get started sooner than later but with the CDC just recommending all events of 50 or more be cancelled I think the tournament organizations are going to have to modify their schedule. As things shake out they may have to limit number of attendees/teams at certain events during certain time frames.

canceled, MLB might be out until July now. Does this season even get salvaged?

Can parents/coaches realistically 'self-police'? If a player (or someone in his family) is showing possible signs-- do the parents bow-out for precaution? Does the coach step in on forbid the player?

Too many opinions on the virus, to get into 'that' discussion, but folks need to be smart.

Personally, I wouldn't want to put my elder family members at risk for one tourney... But for those that do not have elder family members, I could see the want to play.

300+ teams at about $500 per team is $150k+

It's easy to understand USSSA wanting to have this tourney, but that would definitely not be doing US a service.

I think USSSA handled this great. They gave every team a chance to pull out and receive a refund a week before the event. Then they allowed teams to sign up for those who dropped out. Now that the parks made them cancel every team will get a refund of the full amount. I think that's great customer service!!

PG on the other hand advertised a tourney for the 14-15 at East Cobb Complex only to move our sites to Dunwoody and Cumming after the schedule comes out. Classic bait and switch that they pull often. When it got cancelled do you think they give a full refund. Heck No you get a credit to a future event that who knows when will get to take place.

Now if USSSA could get more sites above Atlanta where most of the teams are that would be awesome!!

PG actually gave our team the option to drop out without penalty on Thursday before the tournament was supposed to start... they did their best to let everyone that wanted to play the opportunity to do it, including us. But just like with the SuperNIT, the news from the CDC and Governor shut us out with all of the county parks and places like 643 and PCMS shutting down their fields. Sucks for everyone, but we have to deal with it. We just want to play!

I think the difference is giving a refund versus a credit towards a future event. If they have to cancel everything through at least April that could be a lot of credits a team might have. If they already paid for events for the season when are they ever going to use those credits. It’s one thing for an organization that will play in fall and next year and can use credits then - what about teams that may disband after this season? If PG sticks to the credit policy vs refund, they will ensure that a lot of teams won’t pay for tournaments anymore until the Monday before or whenever the cutoff is.

Its very likely we will see a shortened season by at least 4 tournaments per travel team. PG giving credits helps the travel organization as they can use them next year, but I doubt these organizations will be refunding any individual player fees like they should!

@GAJags43 PG never gave me the opportunity to drop out without penalty for the 14th-15th. I'm just not a fan of them being able to keep $575 when other tournament directors give you refunds. I'm sure USSSA didn't want to refund $145,000 back for the NIT but they did! I wish more teams/coaches would think about things like this and play with who takes care of you. PG does a good job running there tournaments but I don't agree with that policy!

Some teams have such a full tourney schedule, that a 'credit' for a future tournament is a mute point. If teams have a season end date of, let's say July 4th, there may not be enough choices for 'future' tournaments-- especially in regards to the current team, as darden17 mentioned. PLENTY of families will never see that benefit from their fees they paid for any cancelled tourneys.

~$575 x ~3 tourneys potentially cancelled and not made up = ~$140 per family (assuming 12 players on the roster). Not a ton of money when you're paying $2500-$4000, but still...

It's PG's business model. It protects them from teams who pay early (maybe for their 'discounts') but decide to play elsewhere at the last minute due to competition/weather (re: TbS/PBR @ Lakepoint). However, in extreme situations, there should be audibles and contingency plans. Maybe they (PG) keeps ~$50-$75 per team for admin fee, and refund the rest.

I could see two scenarios that could be in play: Team A is registered for and paid for 4-5+ tourneys who may be more apt to get the refund. While Team B: has only paid for 1 (maybe 2 events) and otherwise just penciled into some tourneys, so a credit is applied for any tourneys missed.

@turntwo I agree with everything you said but in this case where we have no idea if the season is going to be played or not at this moment. I think the right thing to do would have been to offer a refund. Like someone said earlier "what if season is a wash and a team splits up"? Nobody could have predicted this so why should PG benefit from cancelling a tournament for reasons no team could control!

USSSA did the right thing for the teams while PG is doing what's right for their company! Just frustrating

Seems like a bigger issue is are organizations/teams going to refund player fees that have already been paid? Most require payment up front.

This may actually become a big issue, as its looking like we may NOT even have a season this year. I would now be surprised if we are playing before June. We have at least a 2 month period of increased risk and may end up much longer.

So what if we dont even play this year? Or only play 2-3 tourneys? Do you think programs will refund? I will go back and dispute credit card charges if season cancelled.

This blew my mind, when I saw that... My heart breaks for those kiddos missing out on that wonderful tourney... While I can't blame CDP, ASV's approach isn't as 'knee jerk' and totality either.
