Our team has played in PG tournaments the past couple of weeks. Over the years, I've seen some good and some bad umpiring. But these past couple of weeks have been very challenging for these guys. They do not seem where I would expect the quality of PG umpires to be. Maybe, it's Covid related? I am finding that they are not getting themselves into position to make the appropriate call. Yeah, it's hot outside, but you have a job to do. You're getting paid to do it, and these families/kids have invested a lot of time and money to play in these events. Furthermore, some of the Diamondkast guys act like they are the tournament directors. Some of these guys are great, but others don't know their place. They should be there to score the game and serve the umpires/teams, not try to influence the game. We find that we have to consistently monitor the input of the Diamondkast Coordinators. When you are trying to manage through the pitching rules of these tournaments, keeping up with the errors input by some of these guys is a full-time job.

Totally agree on both fronts. Not sure what to do about quality of umpires but the diamondkast crews really need some training. The scorekeeping is not good and be careful when making lineup/pitching changes. Coaches really need make sure the DK person knows a change was made.

Yep, and it was a close play that ended our game. Our coach came out to protest and both umpires walked off the field before he even go 1/3 of the way out. Playing at Brook Run with the way they call from behind the pitcher was a joke and very inconsistent. They need to find another location (masks, no dugouts, etc).

Have watched 5+ games at Brook Run. All a disaster as it relates to balls and strikes. If Brook Run is going to continue to require an umpire closer to 2B than pitchers mound to call balls and strikes, it is time for PG to stop playing there. Not the umpires fault, you are setting them up to fail. I have never seen kids huddled closer together than when they are in the bullpen.

One of our first PG games of the year, the game ended with our boys only mustering one run on three hits in a five inning game which added up to 23 total at-bats. DK had the box score with 45 at-bats with kids that didn't even play or get an at-bat listed as 0-3 up and down the box score. There are so many issues with DK and they just tell you that they can only do what DK allows. The conversation typically ends with a rude 'send an email'.

And I agree, Brooks Run is awful and quite a disservice to these kids. I'll finish my vent with one more; the preferential treatment that some teams/programs get as to pool draws and location. When was the last time you saw the 643 Cougars playing Jackets National or ECB Astros in pool play at Cass High School? You haven't and that is by design by PG. Sad that other paying teams getting brutal pools while preferred teams get catered to. Thanks Fowlpole for starting this and tolerating my vent!!!

I can chime in that DK is typically a disaster, but I'm not sure it's the scorer's fault. Apparently it's a fairly complicated and not user friendly interface. Outs happen, and one can only assume double play... Now, the ROE vs hit or PB vs WP is all opinion based so we've long since gave that up. We've had get record singles/doubles in game-- literally listed in the play by play, only to show 0-3 in the box score. That's a software issue-- not an input/user issue. BUT, since PG developed the proprietary DK software, as long as gullible people like us continue to pay $40-$50 a year subscription, why would they try to change/enhance it?

Brooks Run... So, good news is, the fields there have been allowing games. Bad news? The setup. With limited number (up until now anyway) private fields available, and all of us 'chomping at the bit' to play, well... PG is attempting to give us what we want. I guess the only other alternative is cap the number of teams. OR only allow in teams that can provide fields to host tourney games (which I assume would limit teams that could play). Can't please everyone. Most were/are ready to play. Be happy there's baseball. Albeit not 'normal', there is baseball.

Don't want to play at BR? Back out of the tourney if you get games there? Or... continue to push your local BoE's or county rec departments to open up fields to allow more options.

Yep. I was talking to the kid running our game yesterday. He told me DK is wonky, not as user friendly as GameChanger. He couldn't record a bunt to the pitcher and a flip to the catcher for a tag out. Also, pitchers that come in the game inherit all runners on base instead of them being charged to the prior pitcher.

They charge us so much money this needs to be fixed. Plus if PG is the recruiting tool they say it is....well, lots of flaws.

That is because umpires simply don't care anymore. They are tired of the crap and not being respected.

Unfortunately, that's the case, and all of these organizations are taking the hit for it, not just PG. However from what I was told, a lot of PG's "A" guys are sitting at home because

1. Don't want to risk contracting COVID.
2. They're making more money on unemployment, so they don't want to call 4-6 games a day for less money.
3. Coaches and parents becoming an issue, and don't want to call any more.

With those guys gone, they've had to bring in guys they normally don't have out there, and it shows unfortunately. Our club mainly plays PG, Grand Slam, and a couple SS, and it seems to be the case across the board.
