I've been a fan of NWBA for the past 7+ years and have never posted once. Sadly, I see so many Dads promoting their sons as major players this and major players that! I'm not looking for anyone to provide negative feedback, but would love to start a dialogue on why many of you Dads promote your son as major? What does that mean? As my son get older (14U) and continues to just love the game of baseball, he could play for any team on this message board but we no longer live in GA. I just would never put that much pressure on my son to be a "major" player. I'm just looking for solid positive feedback on what is truly major in most minds. If your son is major and known throughout the Atlanta area, why would you ever have to post on this board to find a team. I'm quite sure coached would be calling you? Just venting because I'm bored but would love to know? Best to all of you...

Well, sometimes you post "major" to be clear you don't want AA teams contacting you.

There are many levels of Major in my opinion and 14u is where it can get weird. Of course the 14u kid who is throwing 85mph and mashing the ball over the fence is major but what about the masher who can't field? Or the kid that throws 80, is he major? What about the scrappy little kid that can get anything and everything at SS, but can only hit it in the infield?

14u is such a weird age, you have grown men and you have 5'0 85 pound kids. Both could be potential major level players but in different ways. I think the definition of Major level is are they showing mastery in some aspect of the sport that could let them play at the next level.

There are a few braggers on here but at 14u "major" is just a way to describe where a player fits competitively. Can he compete in TC/PG tourneys or is he challenged in Dalton or Hobgood? I don't think anyone thinks most "major" players at 14u are gamechanging elite studs. They're just good enough to hit, pitch and/or play defensively at a reasonably competitive level against the top 14u teams. There are a LOT of major players at 14u, most of which have definite strengths and weaknesses.

I am from the school that there are no major players, just major teams. These days with PG's website and Game Changer, just list the team your kid plays for and let the rest take care of itself.

If your son has been selected to play on major team, that was not a daddy ball team, in the past, with success, he is a major player. When a team is listed as a triple A team and they start dominating their division, the coaches will receive a call from the program director, telling them that they are being promoted to the major division. Once you put a year in at the major level, you are considered a major player. I remember my son going through the process. He was 8 on a double A team and virtually struck out the entire team, every time he pitched. A triple A team invited him to play and he did well, but did not strikeout everybody when he pitched. At 9 He played on a major level team from 9-11. Last year, At 12, he tried out for the East Cobb Astros, not knowing a single player or coach on the team. The Astros were ranked the number 1 12U Major baseball team in Georgia by Perfect Game 2016 and the number 3 team in the nation. My son, Christian Jackson, was the first person to receive an offer to be on that team. He started in Right field. Over the summer he was selected by Perfect Game to play in Florida for the 12U West Georgia Allstar team. He made the all-tournament team and top prospect list. So if you were starting a double A team today, would you say my son should be on a double A team, or would you consider him a major player?
