Need a little help please. Looking into taking a team to Cooperstown for 2019 Summer season. What is the purpose of the certificates that are offered here. Do I have to find someone with a certificate to able to take my team for this tourney? or can you just register normally?

Any help is much appreciated.

The certificate guarantees you a week. The link below is a great resource https://travelballblog.com/2017/01/08/cooperstown-qa-grandfather-certificates/

Dreams park hands out a certificate to every team that comes during the summer and plays. This is like a coupon that guarantees you get a spot next year, providing you have everything in on time. Presumably you are supposed to give it to your 12u team for next year out of your same park, thus continuing the tradition. However, sometimes it's an individual team that doesn't really have a home park or the park isn't going to have a 12u team next year, in which case they don't need it and will sell it to a person like you who needs one....for a "donation" to their team.

To the question, do you need one? I have heard that you absolutely need one, that it is near impossible to get a week without one....HOWEVER, my sons team got a week without one. The coach was SUPER sly, I have to admit that. On the first day they accepted applications he sent in the deposit from his own money. I can see his point...if they were denied a week then he didn't have to refund to parents, he also didn't have to lie to parents and say we were for sure going. Bottom line, he got it done without a grandfather certificate. He made sure he was the first in line on the waiting list after all the grandfather certificates had been counted. 13 weeks, 103 teams per week, that is a crap load of certificates out there...but if you are first in line and even one of those teams don't pass their certificate on to someone else then BAM you are in! But it is much easier with a certificate.
