Has anyone watched any HS games yet? what are your thoughts with the season so far? I have seen 3 games 2 Varsity and 1 JV and so far have enjoyed what I have seen,(well the jv was tough to watch)
Varsity most pitchers are slightly ahead of the hitters but it will all even out soon. Fields look amazing right now. Coaches are trying to figure out who can play where. Some are struggling to throw strikes some are not.

I see a decent amount of talent. I'm looking forward to the coaches finding the secret recipe of the batting order that works wonders. Should figure it out about the last week of play, lol, but that's high school ball for ya!

I went and watched a jv game last night and it is tough to go back to watch but baseball is back and who can complain about that. I have noticed big differences in the classifications in talent.

I saw one JV and one Varsity game, my son played JV game but dressed one varsity game but no chance of getting on the field really.
What do most of you think is move advantageous to a player playing JV or sitting on Varsity.

Playing is always better than sitting.

Any other teams not mentioned you guys think might make a run at a state championship?
I am going to throw out South Forsyth as a potential championship team. I would never count out Pope. Loganville,
any sleepers?

Got to figure North Oconee will do well in their class as well as Lovett.

It's hard to say since they named several schools across several divisions. I'm going to throw in the final two from every state championship last year. Pretty sure Etowah and Woodstock beat a few of those last year. It's so difficult to say with so many seniors graduating every year, the whole landscape changes.

I've watched a couple Woodstock JV games. Its was very tough for me to sit through it. I'm used to seeing starter's start every game and playing your best players. I'm also used to being around coaches who actually coach and use strategy to play to win. From what I've seen so far, there will be a different batch of players each game in JV. Very disappointing to say the least. Folks tell me to get used to it, it's just the way it is. I won't though..., My thoughts are, if you are going to play a game, then be good at it, otherwise we could go fishing or something.

Well, such as life I guess. The season only has 6 more weeks and then it's off to real baseball in travel ball.

Yeah, I watched another JV game today at Woodstock. Yes, Woodstock won the game in 9 innings, but it was a joke and looked like rec-ball city. If the coach knew the players, the game would not have even been close. Word of advice to any wanna be high school coaches, do your job and your homework, if you won't to coach. Do some research on your players and know what positions they play, what their batting stats are, and what teams they have played on in the past. It's an embarrassment and an insult to waste "marque" players and parents time by making sure everyone gets playing time. I know this sounds harsh, but it's the truth. Done with rant.

Woodstock just beat nationally ranked and #1 in the state River Ridge today. Maybe, just maybe the coaches over there have a plan with the JV. Stay patient and enjoy the ride! And no, I’m not part of Woodstock or River Ridge!

SuperStar - you know JV is to prepare players to be competitive for varsity right? Why are you whining about a coach that actually gets that and plays all the players he has? If the kid is not good enough to get on the field for JV then don't take the player. Now Varsity is a different game all together. They should be playing the best players every game as their goal is to win and go to the 'ship. JV doesn't have any playoffs to compete for. It is all about developing your players for your varsity squad and you can't develop sitting on the bench.

All baseball is currently in pre-season. That means the games don't "count". Now is the time to attempt to set your best 9. Also, last year the pecking order seemed to go Juniors, then 10th, then if you have a brother on varsity, then the 9th graders got some token innings here and there to show if they had any skills. That's just what JV is, it's a training ground for varsity. You can also expect some Varsity players who are riding the bench to be starters some JV games to keep their pitching/hitting/defensive skills fresh. Last year my kid was told he was starting, until two V pitchers came down to "help out" with pitching and OF. JV is not like Travel Ball.

I am not a fan of Juniors being on the JV, except for maybe a rehab start on the mound.

I agree, although I did see some juniors go down last year to get some swings. My son's team recently played a team that had 23 players on it, they may have to move players down to get reps.

I'm not a fan of it either. However, last year was just weird. The V team was so stacked and it was either cut the above average SS and the mid 70's lefty or offer them JV. Varsity was very deep at MIF's and with 6 pitchers committed V just had no room for a mid 70's LHP...they weren't bad players. One commited to an NAIA this year.

Sounds like a team that went deep into the playoffs! There is always room for exceptions to any rule (that is why zero tolerance is a fail). Having a freshmen team would possibly help with log jams as well.

Freshman teams are great, but it comes down to resources. It's hard enough to get field time between V and JV, add in another team and someone is practicing until 8pm every day. That's rough. Only way out is a practice field of sorts and most schools just don't have the funding or space for an additional field.
