What options are you guys seeing used in Perfect Game or other tournaments where USABat requirements are used? We will only play one tournament where these requirements are used so we are not inclined to go out and buy a number of these bats for our team. Should we go buy a 1) couple of the lower end alloy bats, 2)purchase one higher end 2-piece composite such as a Easton Ghost or Demarini Zen or 3) swing wood bats? Looking for anyone who has seen these bats in action who can give critical feedback for the options listed above.

Thanks in advance for any information you can give.

Go to Better Baseball and try the Hitrax. Son fell in love with a medium priced bat that I found new for $80 because it was a two year old model.

You will be surprised...he didn’t care for the $500 bat, not that I would had bought it.

Thanks for the reply Bravemom but I don't think there are any two year old USABat options out there. The standard has only been in use for a couple months now.

Don't think she meant go find a 2-year old USABat. She was saying if you go to Better Baseball, your son can swing the different models of USABats to see which feels best to him and get feedback from their HitTrax system.

Just got an email yesterday that Hobgood Park is going from Dizzy Dean to Little League next year and they mandate the USABat rule, no BPF 1.15 anymore. So now my youngest will have to do away with his bats. So I have interest in this thread as well.

I was on Justbats.com looking but most of what they had weren't in his size....however, I won't need one until next year. So I have time.

My oldest is playing 13u and we play lots of TC/PG tourneys and aren't mandated to use USABats, we use -5 1.15 or BBCOR.

I know it's a separate topic but Hobgood going to Little League? Wow! I wonder if this will automatically make them one of the stronger little league in GA to challenge Peachtree City and Columbus, and be in a position to consistently make a run at the LLWS. They have always been one of the best all star team in my son's dizzy dean all star days. If the other parks around northwest suburb (Acworth, Kennesaw, etc) doesn't follow them, I wonder if they will draw kids from the surrounding area at 11u/12u for the purpose of LLWS. The closest LL we have around here is at Cartersville.

"Draw kids"...? I thought the 'purity' of LL was that when a park establishes themselves as "LL", you HAD to live within xyz miles from the park to even be eligible to play there, correct? That was a primary reason some teams (TN I believe) were ruled ineligible after the Regionals a few years ago-- kids from 'out of district'.

I think only if you have several LL Park in the area. If there’s only Hobgood, and all the rest are still Dizzy Dean, then I would imagine those kids are within the geographical boundary of Hobgood. I was thinking of the kids being drawn from the Dizzy Dean affiliated parks.

I am on the board at Hobgood. Our territory is all of Cherokee County. If your child will attend a Cherokee County HS then you are eligible to play LL at Hobgood.

I think the decision to move to LL is great. By any chance was this a way to keep the younger kids AT hobgood? I saw a lot of kids leave around 9u to go to travel ball, at that point hobgood became....less.

South GA...just swing WOOD. So much easier, and if you have the talent to go far in the PG format then your kids have the talent to swing with wood.
