This might have been discussed before, however I would be interested in anyone knows the 2015 rules. As I write this it is 10 degrees outside and my son got a new composite bat for Christmas. Not looking to create any advantage or start any controversy, simply looking to protect the bat. Are bat warmers legal for all? USSSA, PG, GrandSlam, TripleCrown, etc.? Thanks.

I remember reading somewhere that warming the bat would do more harm to the bat than good anyway. Theory was that when things get really cold, they get harder. If you warm the bat, it will get softer, but the ball remains cold and hard. Chances are better of cracking the bat if it is warm and the ball is cold. Not sure if it's true, but it kind of makes sense.

If you are concerned about ruining an expensive bat in the cold weather, just use an old bat when it gets really cold.

In 2007, Pyroflite bat warmers was an official sponsor of USSSA. Not sure if they remain a sponsor today, but there's nothing in their rules that specifically prohibit warming bats (they tend up update their rules every January and post in February, so that may change for 2015, but I highly doubt it.

Likewise, TC does nothing to specifically mention prohibiting them.

Never seen anything specific to PG either.

In 2012, NFHS outlawed any device or practice to change the temperature of a bat (heating or cooling). Not sure if PG accepts that interpretation of the high school rule at ages where they require BBCOR bats.

I don't know about legal for all. I have heard horror stories about umpires walking up and declaring every single bat being warmed was now unusable in that game and teams scrambled to find two or three other bats which the entire team then had to use.

Many umpires come from the High Schools, and bat warmers are supposedly illegal there. NFHS "Rule 1-3-5 states that “No artificial or intentional means shall be used to control the temperature of the bat,” based on scientific research that altering the bat damages the bat and poses an unnecessary risk of injury."

Just got this back from Triple Crown:
"Yes we will allow bat warmers as long as it is not hooked up to a heater with electricity or being held in front of a heater to heat the barrel."
