Does anyone at there have any opinions on the Combat B2 or even the B1 small barrell. My son uses a senior bat now but I was told that these bats have more pop than any bat out there. And I have to purchase a new bat for the upcomming season.

Thanks

One thing to keep in mind thought, it has a lot more to do with the indian than it does the arrow !!

b99 : does the Triton TPX bust as quickly as the Catalysts?

I am told it is the upgrade from old Catalyst model. True?

What do you like about the Triton for 12 and 13s age group

We've had really good luck with the Catalyst bats. My son had an 06 model that is still hotter than any bat I've seen. It's a 2-1/4" barrel though. I have seen a lot of the 07's break though (not mine, other people). So far, the Triton has been awesome and hot right out of the wrapper. As for the 12 & 13u age groups, I have no idea. My oldest just turned 10.

My take is to let him swing what he's most confident using. At 12 YO barrel size isn't a big issue, neither is weight. My son, 12, is currently using 2 1/4" bats that are -10, 30" in length. Why a change from the big barrel? He'll tell you that they just feel better in his hands and when he swings. He still kills the ball, but he feels more confident with the "skinny" bats.

He's used both the big barreled Catalyst and the DeMarini CF3 ( a great bat) with a lot of success. But, in the end, he's going with what he feels more confident using. I'd recommend the same advice for you and your son.

I agree with several points others have made:

1. at some point, usually 13, they need to transition into -5 bats. My son is using a bamboo Mizuno for some batting practice to get the feel of the heavier weight. It's probably a -4.

2. The TPX Triton is one hot bat.

3. Bats can't work miracles.

4. Full composites have very clear advantages over any other materials.

5. The B1 has a loyal following for very good reasons. It's a well made and designed bat. Most fathers I've spoken with say their sons dislike the Combat Senior bats.

I've also heard that the Sports A Rama in Roswell has demo bats for kids to try. That's money, there. Getting to hit before purchase? Pure genius.

I'd be leery of the Rawlings bats. Loved the bat, but they hardly lasted a month. Went through four of them (-5's) last summer.

My son has a 2 5/8 big barrel Combat Virus and a 2 1/4 Combat B1. I have to admit that the B1 seems to actually have more pop to it than the big barrel Virus. The B1 is 1 oz. lighter and 1 inch longer, so that may have something to do with it. We have had both bats for almost a year now and have not had any issues with either one. One thing to keep in mind with all composites is their "sensitivity" to cold weather. I believe the recommendation is to not use them in temps below 60 degrees. This usually isn't a problem as you get later in the year, but for early morning games in Feb-Mar, it can be a little on the chilly side.

depends on your son and what age group. Just from my sons experience (he has hit Catalyst Composite -10 Senior when he was 10 and 11. At 12 he hit the -8 Rawlings Plasma Gold Big Barrel(this was after buying a Combat composite..my son hated it.) Almost every kid on our team hit the Plasma Gold. Now going to 13 he still has his -8 Plasma but going to start transitioning to the Plasma -5. If your son is strong enough to swing a -8 big barrel I would suggest the Rawlings Plasma Gold Big Barrel. That bat has good pop. And a decent price compared to the big barrel composites. About 180 retail. You may be able to find it online cheaper.

My 10U son uses the small barrell B1 and loves it. He's 70 lbs so the end weighted big barrells swing him. His bat speed suffered too much even with the max drop Orange w/ Blue handle Easton I bought him for $300 (ouch!). He needed a lighter bat that still had enough pop to compete in travel ball. The B1 felt so light, I was able to go an extra inch in length to help cover the outside edge of the plate. He's always been able to get the bat on the ball, so the lost diameter isnt an issue for him. The sound isnt as cool as the big barrrel blue/white Worth, but the results have been great. The B1 sounds like a broken wooden bat when he clocks one with it, but the ball jumps off it well. A neighbor had warranty issues with the Combat big barrell, and he eventually dumped it.
