Papa, if you were totally correct here, there would be no odds makers in Vegas. I respectfully disagree. Its very tough to know know who might win a certain game in a tourney, but using past history can determine future tourney outcomes to some extent. Predicting the 1st tourney of the year is the toughest of all due to the new and unknown variables. Newly formed teams in particular have the most variability. Teams like the Holly Springs Express, East Cobb Bulldogs and East Cobb Luck, can finish just about anywhere. The Bandits are most predictable because they have the most extensive history, and do not change players very often. Just watch, one of these newly formed teams will do something surprising, and the Bandits will make the final 4. Its called probabilities.
bMoser - Excellent points and I do agree but I still feel that with baseball there are so many more variables that can change the course of a game such as a bad hop, a great player making a bonehead play, a ball being 1/2" foul that could have won the game but didn't, and a hundred more things that allows what we perceive the weaker team on paper to win. And then you have that one great play out of a hundred that changes the course of a game. I guess my point was that its all of these things working together that makes baseball such a great sport to watch and gives every team the hope that they might just get that good hop and beat what you and I thought was the better team. I absoulutely agree that their are several surprises waiting to be heard from and I sincerely hope that the Bandits are fortunate enough to make the final 4. But the only probablity that I am 100% sure of is that every team that has entered this tournament will have the opportunity to be the winner.

Baseball is sort of like the Soprano's. Remember the guy that said I thought I was out and they dragged me back in.
That is the way of baseball, I thought I had it figured out but the game proved me wrong. Ever wonder why we love this game so much? I believe it is the uncertainty that keeps us coming back. No matter how many times you beat me on the baseball field I always feel that I can adjust, come back and win the next game. With baseball it is always about the game in front of you.
We talk in this cold weather wishing the games would begin and we base our opinions on last year and the new players picked up and on what should be. Truth is that none of us know who the top teams really are but isn't is fun to pretend that we do.
I will tell you that I believe more in the overall program versus indivisual teams. Programs such as East Cobb, Kennesaw, Wills Park, 643, Midway, and Bandits that year in and year out find a way to win. The key is that these programs teach their kids the fundamentals and coach the right way. These programs have not only developed goals but have a plan that has been tried and proven to be successful.
Thanks for the compliment if it was a compliment but take it from an old man that no man can ever predict precisely the unpredictable game of baseball.

Posted - 01/29/2009 : 07:05:33 One of my favorite quotes from a baseball guy. Everyone is undefeated before the season starts. Everyone thinks they are going to be a great team until the season starts. Then you realize what things you have to improve on. All I have heard about the ECB Luck is they are pretty lucky and that always counts for something in baseball. |

I saw the longhorns play in the fall. I know for a fact two of the kids they lost were really good hitters with a lots of power. Saw both of these kids go yard at all tournaments players park last fall. Did not see the other go yard at all??? If I am not mistaken these were the only two kids to go yard the whole tournament but that is hearsay did not watch every game. I think they do got one big hitter left that hit a home run last fall at another park. The other kid they lost was a big kid also with lots of power. It will be hard to replace the power and rbi's they would generate in a year. I did like there shortstop though best player on that team I thought. If they have kept him they got a chance but do not think they will be able to compete with bandits, 6-4-3 etc... But you never know I am sure they will improve some just like everybody else. |

Posted - 01/28/2009 : 08:36:59 I think we will see Boynton Dominate again this season. 6-4-3 with their coaching and defense will be a solid force all season long. Homeplate Chili dogs are always in the run(if they kept all their good players and picked up a few), Holly Springs should be a top tier team. ECB Tigers will be in the mix, Longhorns if they gel could be right up there with the top teams like Boynton and 6-4-3. East side seems over rated to me at this point. Kennesaw should be close to the top or fall way back depending on how much they improve or remain stagnent this season. The rest of the teams I expect to be just average. BANDITS BASEBALL--RINGGOLD, GA 6-4-3 DP COUGARS--MARIETTA, GA HOMEPLATE CHILIDOGS RED--PEACHTREE CITY, GA EAST COBB LONGHORNS--MARIETTA, GA EAST COBB SCORPIONS--MARIETTA, GA KENNESAW EXPRESS--KENNESAW, GA EAST COBB SCORPIONS--MARIETTA, GA central dekalb jaguars--decatur, ga SOUTH FORSYTH SPARTANS BLUE--CUMMING, GA HOLLY SPRINGS EXPRESS--CANTON, GA midway dirty dawgs--alpharetta, ga SANDY PLAINS WILDCATS--MARIETTA, GA OREGON PARK STORM--KENNESAW, GA EAST COBB LUCK--MARIETTA, GA WILLS PARK YELLOW JACKETS--ALPHARETTA, GA NORTH GEORGIA STORM--ALPHARETTA, GA EAST SIDE VENOM--MARIETTA, GA DUNWOODY DESTROYERS--DUNWOODY, GA DUGOUT CLUB TIGERS--NEWNAN, GA EAST COBB BULLDOGS--MARIETTA, GA

Posted - 01/27/2009 : 22:10:27 Who is Oregon Park? Has anyone seen them play? I think the Bandits are easily the team to beat. At least they looked better than everyone except the STIXX in the fall and they were one of the best last year. My Top 4 Bandits, 643, Kennessaw, Chilidogs

Okay, you convinced me, I'll take the Holly Springs Express instead of 6-4-3.

bmoser, They had these players in the fall and didn't look like what you would expect from 6-4-3. I am looking forward to looking at the Oregon Park team also, they always field a good team.

Posted - 01/27/2009 : 07:30:34 6-4-3 has 3 new players, 2 from the Scorpions and 1 from Venom, both good teams, so I'm betting they've improved which is why I put them in my top 4. Solid Coaching too, but I hope they leave the silly trick plays back at the sandlot. I'll bet the kids had a ball with it though so they score some points there. Got to make it fun.
