I have noticed there are not many 8u Kid pitch travel teams listed on this board. I have been talking to some people and may be starting a 8u Kid Pitch travel team, next season, when my youngest turns 8. But I do not want to waste my time if there are not any or enough teams to make it a competitive and worthy experience for the players, coaches and parents.. Are most 8u teams still coach pitch, I am new to the travel ball, my 10 yr old is on his first 10u travel team and my 7 yr old has been in rec ball All Stars since he was 5. Wouldnt mind doing some coach pitch tournaments but would prefer kid pitch.

I think that 8 is to young to start kid pitch. 9 Is hard enough. Plus I think that it would be hard to find that many boys at 8 that could consistantly throw strikes. Of course then that lends itself to overpitching the ones that can.

If you still want to do it however, AABC is the organization that most of the southside teams play in at that age. Good luck either way.

How beneficial is it to play kid pitch at 8U rather than coach pitch? At 9 it is enough of a struggle to throw strikes, but 8 seems like the year where they are still being taught the fundamentals and having them pitch seems like too much to add all at once. You either have to have a bunch of pitchers, since they probably only are able to throw 2 or 3 innings per game before they get their pitch count limit, or you overpitch the kids.

My son's 9, so we went thru this decision recently. We did league kid pitch in the Spring, then passed on all stars to do Coach pitch Summer travel and had a blast. Coach pitch puts the ball in play a lot sooner in the count (normally on the 2nd pitch in travel), and more often (almost every kid puts it into play in travel) so the boys learn defense and baserunning much faster. Coach pitch is like pinball, 8u kid pitch is like chess. Your son will have more fun in Coach pitch. Plenty of time for kid pitch later on.

From what I know, most 8u kid pitch teams come from inner city Atlanta and the South East Atlanta Counties(Fayette & Henry)....Not many 8u kid ptich teams north west of Atlanta..Some but not as many as other areas around ATL.
