Posted - 01/29/2009 : 10:02:56 Since a big topic lately is "team jumpers". Should a player who leaves a team get any refund? If a player makes a few scheduled payments, for uniforms, equipment, tournaments and misc should he get any money back for these expenses? Should he be allowed to keep the equipment even if he has paid for it and it's brand new? I think this might be a way to keep the jumpers from jumping and allow the next player picked up to use the already purchased uniform, bat bag, socks, hat etc without having to pay for any of it. That way it might be easier to recruit a player to your team. |

Posted - 02/03/2009 : 14:21:10 Every situation is different and until you get into that particular situation, on one side or the other, it is hard to give a definitive answer as to what to do. There is no blanket answer.
Sometimes it is team hopping, sometimes it is schedule conflicts, sometimes it is bad coaching, sometimes it is bad parent expectations, sometimes you move out of town, etc. |

Posted - 02/03/2009 : 14:02:54 Every time we collect money from parents, we remind them that there are no refunds. It's harsh but very upfront. On our team budget that they sign at the beginning of the season it also states no refunds except for extenuating circumstances as determined by either the manager or the business manager.
For instance if a kid is injured in March and will miss the rest of the season, we'll give a partial refund. If dad gets a job transfer out of town and they have to move, we'll refund due to that. But if they leave the team on their own or are asked to leave for breaking team rules or parental problems, there is no refund.
In the three years since we've begun this policy, we've not had any financial issues with parents that were not rectified by referring to the no refund policy that they were regularly reminded of.
As far as uniforms, at times we've offered to buy slightly worn uniform jerseys and/or bat bags back at a fraction of the cost. It provides them with a bit of cash back in their pockets while allowing us to offer them to a future player at a substantial discount if they accept the number that's on them. It ends up being a win-win for everyone.

Posted - 01/30/2009 : 13:09:39 NO REFUND is not realistic. It all depends on the circumstances of the situation. To say blatently no is wrong. It depends on the reason (long drive 45 minutes, person who usually drove my son to practice is now in bad health and couldnt do it anymore), we had to find a team closer to home. And we paid in the fall. So we did get a refund. and I greatly appreciated it. If they just quit to quit to be on another team NO REFUND. |

Posted - 01/29/2009 : 15:22:32 No refund! But as stated, the player keeps whatever has been given to him that his previous payments have gone to...bag, helmet, uni's, cleats....hopefully the coach isnt that desperate to need that stuff back, USED!
