Yes intersting.....as a MS coach with 20 plus years experience with Hs/MS/ and travel I feel it is a mistake to have a 13 year old on a HS team, unless he is very mature mentaly and physically. He will swing a bat that is drop 3 at 90 pounds? And say he grows to 100 pounds...still sounds like a tall order to me. As for your question...drop 5...swing wood bats as much as possible...the Plasma is great bat and you might want to get him on a work out program....

Interesting. If you are going to have him try out next year, you probably need to get him started swinging a -5 some this year. He would not, and probably should not at 12, use it exclusively but needs to get comfortable because he would have to go to -3 on JV.

Question for you, Joe. Does he go to public or private school? I have heard rumors of this being the case but have only heard about it at private schools. Just curious.

Private schools often have 3 H.S. teams (8th/9th, JV & Varsity) and allow 8th graders to tryout for the Freshmen team. It's difficult for schools to provide field/facility time for three teams but gets more players participating and provides a longer period of time for the Staff to develop players.

He will have to use a -3 drop. I transitioned my son to -5 the Summer season before his initial 8th grade high school tryouts. Also, have him hit with wood during drills, cage hitting ASAP to aid in the adjustment. Our strength and conditioning school staff has age and sport specific weight training for all H.S. athletes beginning at the eighth grade level. He should begin working to get stronger immediately.

My son can tryout for the 9th grade team next year as a 8th grader.

What HS allows 7th graders to try out for their HS team?
