Posted - 05/21/2009 : 10:47:48 We are playing this weekend and if the pool games shake out with no upsets. The tournament will setup for us to play Georgia Select Eagles, Georgia Redbirds, Georgia Scorchers, and Rockdale Rhinos. I know that is not anything like what Sandtown or Bandits have to go through but in little old AA that is a pretty stout lineup.Just curious if you have seen Georgia Select Eagles and Georgia Redbirds and what your, or anyone elses, thoughts are on these teams.

Posted - 05/23/2009 : 20:14:52 Titan, I dont know, but we've gone South nearly every tourney, so might head North to Ellijay for a change. Much easier drive.
No results posted on the Grand Slam sight. What happened today?
We went 2-0 in the wood bat pool, and drew 2nd seed. Some of the league all stars are coming out now, and we saw some hitters today out of the NYO league. Moser-the-Closer had to do his thing.
There were some upsets in the NIT wood bat Major/AAA division so ck it out. Just pool games, but still something to be gathered...

Posted - 05/22/2009 : 22:36:06 Bmoser: I hope our paths do cross in the state championship and hopefully the better team will win. BTW, where are ya'll going to play substate at. We are in Hampton next weekend and then June 12-14th we might play another one of the substates.

Papa, Our teams original plan was to compete for the USSSA AAA State and World Series. Then, just before the season began, our Head Coach and his twins moved up to the East Cobb Bulldogs and another Coach and his son moved up to the the Grip. After losing 3 of our best players, we had to drop down to AA.
We'll play AA sub states, states and the World Series in Kissimmee come Mid July. I dont see our paths crossing again this season. We should play the AA Titans along the way.
Next season, if things work out, we'll be playing the best.
i wont be able to help the Bandits much

Titan1 and Moser: Is there any chance that your teams will play in any of the upcoming major State tournaments or does the organizations you are playing in now offer State titles in AA and AAA divisions. I look forward to seeing Moser again to share and compare notes on the competition.

Posted - 05/21/2009 : 18:46:41 I am alittle worried about pitching depth this tournament my best pitcher will sit out with a bruised shoulder and my #4 guy will not pitch with a sore shoulder. Should be interesting to say the least. Thanks for the scouting report. |

Posted - 05/21/2009 : 15:58:11 We've played all but the Scorchers (but I've seen them twice). You've got a tough path, but that only makes success that much sweeter. I'd rate Redbirds 1, Rhino's 2, GA Select Eagles 3. I hope the weather cooperates because it doesnt look good right now.
Redbirds are deep and play solid defense. Their pitchers throw strikes, so go up there swinging. Their entire line can hit, and their outfield is better than most AA teams.
Select Eagles have some pitchers who can keep you off balance, but if you can manage the put the ball into play, good things can happen.
We havent played the Rhino's since last Fall, and they're improved so cant provide much detail on them. They picked up a player or 2 from the Major Wrath when they brok up, so could surprise.
The Scorchers have the HR threat and power pitching. You'll have to work around their 2 big boys and make the rest beat you.
Your team has played more tourney games and have faced some tougher competition, so I'd give you guys a slight edge, but you have a tough path. If I were you, I'd save more of my pitching for the brackets and hope they burn some in pool play. When there are several good teams, not as much advantage to having a higher seed. The Open class tourneys is where pool seeds are worth fighting for. Good luck!
