TIA! |

AAU pitfalls to be aware of is teams can play down 2 age groups and who knows if teams will even show for games.
No idea why teams can or would want to play down but it is common to do so in AAU Never know if an opponent is doing this till you walk into the gym
Teams may or may not show for games also. Alot of tournies are inexpensive so not much skin in the game as far as money. Example...tourny cost $100. Divide by 10 kids on team and cost only $10 per player. Happens more then you would think. Pick your tournies wisely.
I'm not a fan of basketball, but my son loves it. He is excited about his team this year as we will be a National team playing in several states against top competition. Should be interesting with baseball and basketball this year.
Oh...did I mention I have 2 other kids in travel? Lol!!
Thanks for sharing. Good to hear it is similar to baseball...three in travel? And you are still sane? |

Just happened to get a spam email today from this local group hosting travel basketball team tryouts. Know nothing about it or them, but here's the link if you have any interest.

Thanks for sharing! I have heard about them...don't know their reputation.. They do offer instructional clinics we may look into. |

Posted - 01/14/2016 : 19:20:13 Wow! Rough schedule!
Yes, I can see that happening. Basketball comes very easy to him.,,still has a lot to learn. Looking at summer camps and a fall league opportunity and go from there.
What does a weekend basketball tourney schedule look like?
Thanks! |

Posted - 01/14/2016 : 14:52:56 Yes they are both spring seasons. Many weekends we go from baseball to basketball then back to baseball.
His basketball coach knows that he won't be at all games if there is a conflict since we signed up for baseball first. I was totally up front with the coach and his schedule and conflicts.
Be aware, if your son does start AAU basketball he may switch to it full time if he is anything like my son. I'm thinking this will be the last year of full time baseball. He loves the intensity and non stop action of basketball. Baseball is too slow of a sport for him. Just trying to get through Cooperstown this year.

Stealyyourbase...how does your son do both travel baseball and travel basketball. Aren't they both spring seasons? |

Posted - 01/13/2016 : 23:02:37 Son plays both AAU and travel Baseball (very busy spring/summer!!) No there is not a site specific to basketball that is out there.
Was a big learning curve last year with him playing AAU. No where near as organized as baseball tournies and unfortunately age means little in basketball! |

Posted - 01/13/2016 : 12:56:02 Do a search on AAU Basketball Forums
You'll get a couple of hits. Not anything dedicated to youth in the way that this forum is (there are some high school specific forums), but AAU is certainly the Mafia Don of all things pre-collegiate basketball, so I would start by poking around there. |

Posted - 01/13/2016 : 12:05:15 Geez no one? Maybe there isn't one, I have looked and looked...but I was hoping i just missed it.
I did see travel basketball teams...but couldn't find a comprehensive site such as NWBA. I guess you don't appreciate this site until you don't have it or can't find it! |
