1. california 2. texas 3. florida 4. georgia- though they both told me that 2009 was not as good year for high school talent top to bottom as years past. |

Posted - 07/13/2009 : 19:57:51 In general, from about 8u to 16u, I'd rank 'em like this:
1. California - typically teams from this state are the most competitive, well-instructed on the fundamentals of the game, and geared to win in any given tournament.
2. Texas - same as above, but with slightly fewer teams
3. Florida - From my experience in watching youth baseball Florida teams don't seem to do as well against Texas teams as they do against other states - though they play California teams very well.
4. Georgia - I cannot think of a state outside of the three above that gives Georgia teams any serious trouble year in/ year out. In other words, if a Georgia team lost to a team from a state outside of these three, it would typically be seen as an upset.
5. North Carolina/ South Carolina - the occasional Virginia, Arizona, Ohio, Michigan, NY, Alabama, etc., teams notwithstanding, the NC/SC corridor produces a few really competitive teams.
As for high school and even college, my top three would not change, but Georgia would not remain at #4 and NC/SC would not be at #5.

Posted - 07/13/2009 : 12:14:00 I would add Arizona to the ones mentioned here. But I would also add that in any given year, there could be some surprises or teams that get put together from just about anywhere that could be argued. I think a better indicator of solid competitive baseball programs and areas would be if you took this kind of poll year after year, and then look backwards at repeating areas. I would guess you would see some geographical trends that would better tell the story and all the states listed here would likely be included.

Posted - 07/13/2009 : 08:18:34 gasbag: Papa has been down this road before in the 10 under youth division and I can tell you that there will much controversy with this topic as there well should be. We all should feel that our guys are the best and support them with all of our energy.
Truth is this. Now that the season is winding down I feel that we all should let the results of the season answer this question. Several factors should be considered but we should not just look at the records as this can be deceiving. Who have they played, What is the record of the teams they have beaten. Have they dodged the Super NIT and National's or have they hit them head on.
I know that the Bandits record was 60 wins and 2 losses with both losses coming against teams ranked in the top 4 of the nation. Bandits have also beaten several nationally ranked teams such as the #1 Mizuno Glory, Long Beach Fury, #2 Texas Nationals, Cincy Flames, Germantown Giants, Knoxville Stars, Alabama Giants, Bay Bombers, Stixx, Georgia Grip, 643 and many others. The above teams have also played very stong schedules and have not dodged the competition making them worthy of being considered the best.
The honest truth is that Florida, Texas, Calfornia, Georgia, and many other states have reason to believe that they are the best there is in youth baseball and have many stories to back up their claim.
But for this 2009 baseball season Georgia has proved to be the best in the only place that it matters and that is on the field. Remember that the biggest and baddest youth baseball tournament in America is Cooperstown's Hall of Fame Tournament and that the championship game featured not 1 but 2 of Georgia's best.
