Does anyone else have a problem with the way USSSA runs a tournament. They seem to cater to the top 3 or 4 teams so those teams will go late in the brackets.
Perfect Example is Astro Invitational:
EC Tigers, EC Mets, Cougars, EC Braves, FCA Sluggers, Titans and Chilidogs all played 2 AAA teams in their pools. Therefore a so called mid major has no chance of realistically getting a bye in the tournament when they are playing other major teams in pool play. Only team deserving that got a bye was Florence Elite because they beat a major team. Of all teams in the Gold bracket. Only Florence Elite, Acworth Orange and Powder Springs Indians went 2-0 and had major teams to play. Therefore Titans and Braves get a bye. Have used no pitching and now plays teams that will now be playing there 4th game. Those teams have used up pitching just to get there and Titans and Braves have used none against AAA teams. That is where the unfair advantage comes in because they will keep getting more points due to the byes and teams cannot catch them in points.
I'm not saying they are not good enough to make it to the semi-finals every weekend because they are. Just would be nice to see them actually earn it every once in a while.
Congratulations to the Acworth Warriors. You'll played great all weekend against the best competition.
I guess the only way to truly voice an opinion is to not play in USSSA tournaments. The point system really is a joke. |
