I am going through the tryout process with my son for the first time. I never played baseball. I played golf through college. As we attended private tryouts of travel teams, I assumed these coaches were former baseball players at higher levels. But I am learning many of the coaches (dads) have limited or no personal baseball experience and just emphasize paid assistants (who were not at the tryouts) and their great facilities. You do not coach golf unless you played it at a high level or taught for years in a great program. My wife says I should not care because our son is too young, but seems to me I want the person primarily responsible for the development of my child to have been properly developed himself! Tell me if I am missing something.
