Is the relevance of USSSA slipping over the past couple of years? It seems that the truly elite teams are finding other places to play. PerfectGame is having more and more tournaments at the younger levels and others like TL and TC provide the big boys to match up better than playing in a watered-down tournament. Thoughts? |

I think it's mostly location..how far do you want to drive? That's why you rarely see good teams from out of the cumming/alpharetta/Woodstock/cobb area at TC. And vice versa with USSSA. Long drives either way. PG...Everyone goes there. Plus didn't USSSA go with those USA bat standards? Pretty sure parents of younger players don't want to buy yet another bat specifically to play USSSA. |

usssa lost it's hold here due to PG and TC at the older levels. In other parts of the country TC and PG are nearly non-existent and USSSA is the place to be for the older kids. |

I don't think so, I think USSSA is geared to the younger age groups to start, but I think turntwo hit the nail on the head, it has to do with location and number of tournaments. 11U is probably USSSA's peak and it starts to drop at 12U and beyond.
Personally, I'd like a mix of different tourneys throughout the season. It seems like we are all seeing and playing the same teams by staying local, it's nice to mix things up a bit and play teams you haven't seen before.
It's all in what you are looking for, are we looking for development, fun, trophy hunting or chest thumping? Part of the fun at 12U and going to Cooperstown is playing teams from out of state you've never seen before.
All I know is their rules and bat standards are still being followed by pretty much everyone except Perfect Game.

Well of course its shrinking? Don't you know all the scouts on the 12U circuit hang out at that perfect place where the elite entitled millionaires play. |

Location, location, location... TC thrives in Cumming and Cobb Co.'s due to the saturation of teams, in close proximity of the parks where they are hosting. USSSA does well in other areas (Lagrange, McDonough, FL, etc).
Then again, it's all about the 'end game'. If teams (11U and under) are shooting for Gulf Shores 'world series' (or the E32), which is USSSA, then they have to play in a certain number of U-trip tourneys (a total of a min. of 3 I believe, maybe 4). Beyond that, they may play in more local tourneys (TC/TL/PG/GS/TbS), or continue to drive further (for cheaper buy-ins) for the points. |
