Looking for recommendations for a specialist for my 13yr old. He complains of pain in his elbow when throwing, but not any other time. Any suggestions on the pediatric specialist in the Atlanta area?

In middle of 13u year my nephew got hit on elbow on left arm with a pitch that messed up his elbow growth plate. When went to dr. he looked at throwing elbow also and it was worse than the one that got hit. 14u he pitched 6 innings in last two weeks of the season. In fall of 15u did not pitch switched to first base for 14u and 15u fall. Now a high school freshman and is pitching again and seems good to go. Last time out went 70 pitches. Playing whatever position coach wants him to play with no problems. It will not be the end of his baseball.

Took him to Dr Marshall last week and he is growth plate has started separating on the elbow. No pitching/ throwing for a long time! Dr. Marshall knows his stuff! How much other activity were your boys blue to perform while waiting it out?

My youngest son pitch about two months with a sore shoulder last spring. Went to Dr Marshall after the championship game was over and about two weeks into travel ball. Dr. knew in two seconds it was a separated growth plate.

Three days ago as a freshman he started for his Varsity in the first game of the season and pitched two innings and gave up zero earned runs. The coach understands we are going to keep his pitch count way down until the last quarter of the season going into playoffs. And to tell the truth he will probably skip most of the travel ball season.

Ages 11-13 are when most elbow issues occur. Please don’t let him throw AT ALL until evaluated. I could tell you some horror stories.

Dr. David Marshall with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is the best in the business. He specializes in treating little league elbow and he is in charge of their Sports Medicine division. If it's an elbow issue, you will want to see him, but their group handles all sports injuries.

They also have a great physical therapy group that can rehab the injury and analyze a player's throwing motion and suggest changes to put less stress on the elbow.

Not sure about a specialist but sounds like little league elbow. I'd lay off the throwing til you get it figured out.
