All, my son recently received an invite to the PG Series Classic in Fort Myers, FL.

According to the email:
This individual invitation only event includes an equipment package, athletic testing, practice / scrimmage, opening ceremonies, profile/ coverage on PG website and 5+ games. The goal of this event is to get the top players to represent each area they live in and battle it out to determine who is the best.

Can anyone provide feedback on these Showcases/Tournaments, if you have done these before and if you would do it or do it again?

We would be in the 13U age group if that helps.

Thanks, and I will wait for the responses.

My son has received this letter the past 4 years. We took them up on it the first time for the 12U Series Classic. The events are very organized as you would expect from PG. You get everything that is listed in the invitation and the schedule is followed as closely as the weather allows. If there is a negative, it's that the invitation reads like it is truly an invite-only event based on tourney performances and coaches references. That may not be completely true. The invites may start out like that but it will be obvious that some of the kids requested their way into the field. You will see all skill levels there from AA-Major. There is no way to know everyone's skill level when they are putting the teams together beforehand. As for the coaches, some are there trying to win and will play the best players the most. Others are there enjoying the weather and apply rec ball rules playing everyone as evenly as possible. It's the luck of the draw as to which type of coach you get. The way the schedule is set up, most games are in the mornings allowing for lots of pool and beach time in the afternoons. However, every team will have one day of afternoon games. Bottom line is that my son really enjoyed it the overall experience and got to play a lot of baseball with his friends.

Interesting responses so far. My experiences were a little different. We went to three (yes, three) of these. We met great kids and parents from all over the United States and elsewhere. As far as talent, most of the top teams (we all know them) had kids there. FB velocity was at the top of each age bracket each summer.

No, not every talented player was there and occasionally one saw kids who just had no business playing against that competition. However, overall, it was a great experience. One issue is the scheduling bumping up against the start of school in Georgia. That did limit participation to some extent at 13/14. Overall, we thought very highly of the experience.

I don't remember a lot of the top players playing in the PG Series; especially, the high school (freshman and sophomore) age ones.

The PG Select 14u is a different animal and is an event everyone wants to get invited to.
