York Times-Herald staff writer Posted: 04/19/2013 01:08:45 AM PDT A non-injury parking-lot shooting outside a North Vallejo Little League game Wednesday night resulted in a near-immediate league-wide game suspension. North Vallejo Little League President Greg Reason said by phone Thursday that he is not happy to have to call for the freeze. Until the community can come together to discuss safety issues at the teams' Thurmon Field, however, he stands behind his plan to address safety issues as a top priority. "We know it's the right thing to do, we just hope some good can come out of it," Reason said. No one was injured in the shooting, which reportedly stemmed from an argument around 7:30 p.m. between two men at the game that continued into the parking lot, Vallejo police said. The apparent intended victim was able to get in his car and drive away from the 460 Corcoran Ave. lot before the car was hit by gunfire, Vallejo police Lt. Kenny Park told the Times-Herald Wednesday. North Vallejo Little League will hold an emergency meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, at a location yet to be determined but likely at the field or inside the nearby Continentals of Omega Boys and Girls Club, Reason posted on the League's Facebook page. "I don't know how this is going to go," Reason said of the meeting. "All I know is we need to discuss what it's going to take for us to get back on the field. We've got to take back our community; We've got to able to feel safe when we're out there enjoying a family game." Reason said he could think of at least one way the community could help ensure better safety at League games -- better community involvement. "What we're going to need is more volunteers. We need more people to step up, instead of just waiting for things to happen, waiting for things to be delivered to them," Reason said. "A lot of people just sign up and drop their kids off and feel that everything is just going to be delivered to them. Some even feel that board members get paid -- that's not true, we're all volunteers." It was unclear Thursday whether police, who did not return several calls for comment, had made any headway in investigating the case. They initially described the suspect as a 6-foot-tall mixed-race male in his mid-20s, weighing about 250 pounds. He was armed with a semi-automatic handgun, police added.
