Well said Steel-Will. We can blame scheduling or umpires or whatever our whine of the day is or we can show up and play.....May the best team win!!!!

Nevertheless, when all is said and done, I think this could be an excellent teaching point for our young athletes. Bottom line is if you're a competitor and are playing to win, you'll have to have an "adapt, adjust, overcome, and get it done" attitude. No matter if it's the schedule, the weather, a game at 1:30am, or the suspect umps, just get it done!!!

And when you do get it done, it makes it all the sweeter.

Would it be good if it were all fair and even...sure. But life is not like that, travel baseball in the ATL surely is not like that and probably never will be.

Throw all the teams in the hat and draw for spots on the bracket (I like it!).Luck of the draw!
That way there is no questioning about the pool play schedule. Will this every happen? They can say it does but without representation, I doubt it? This is a great idea for the early tournaments. As the season progresses, I would not want the top 4 teams going head to head in pool play if possible. This should be awarded on merit as the season progresses (Not last years record!)

Excoach - I like the random draw for pools with a coach present, atleast you know what it is and Steel - I'm with you, you have to play the hand your dealt but at some point if you see something over and over it is right to speak up.

Hitman - when you write "Bracket play starts soon and it really doesn't matter if you are the no. 1 seed or the no. 10 seed. You still have to win. Good luck to all." Not true - it does matter when you have to play two Major teams in pool play for a 7th seed then have to play 4 games on Sun to win a ship vs 3 plus every game you play in bracket is tough based on you seed so you have no pitching. So go ahead say "cry baby" I don't care - but maybe now with all the talk this won't be an issue going forward (that is the big picture) then you won't have to hear me or anyone else cry about it.

Good Lord!! I'm sure they will be handing out the crying towels at the gate the rest of the tournament for all of you cry babies about the favoritism. Just play and win and you don't have to worry about it. Bracket play starts soon and it really doesn't matter if you are the no. 1 seed or the no. 10 seed. You still have to win. Good luck to all.

If pool Play doesn't matter and and TD's want to choose the matchups, then why even go thru the process. Let the TD just schedule the championship game up front and the rest of us can just scrimmage each other for free!!!

Matchups should be Random.

"it does matter when you have to play two Major teams in pool play for a 7th seed"

IMO- This speaks more to the differential of talent between teams in the tournament, and not necessarily on pool play match-ups. Meaning, make the entire tourney "major" teams and every match up will be good/fair. The Green Bay Packers destroyed the #1, #2 and #3 seeds in the NFC this year....to be the best, you need to beat the best.

Not saying this is the case in this tournament, but shouldn't seeding and match-ups favor the historically "better" teams? They have earned that right, vs catering to the "lesser" teams.

Heater,
As I posted, I strongly disagree. In your scenario the "chosen teams" will be able to save pitchers, etc. If they are truly better they will win anyway so random pools should not affect them.

The better teams will win out on avg. But this will at least give the good teams who may not have 7 good pitchers a chance to compete and make the top teams show if they truly have depth or not?

Personally I think it would challenge the better teams and help them improve if they have to face other top teams in pool and bracket play. Unless improving and playing the best competition is not the goal.

Heater,
What happens if the so called "better teams" became better teams by always getting placed in an easier pool. Thus allowing them to save thier top tier pitchers for the bracket play games. An earlier post mentioned a complete blind draw. I agree with that especially in these early tournaments.

My son's team is far from a major team, but I dare any team to "save" a pitcher vs us!

I see your point WAREAGLE, but I also see the other side of the argument. Also, this argument may be better served 1/2 way through the summer, vs at the start of the year.

What is the objective of the tournament? To have the best team win? Or try to have the lesser teams squeak out as many wins as possible? Back to my original point, if a team isn't feared enough to have it's opponent use all possible bullets, then that's not on the TD or on the better team. If the lesser team's goal is to win as many tournaments as possible, there are 100s of them out there. Find one that better suits the team's objectives. I like watching good baseball, I rather see my Son's team lose to a Top team, then beat up on bottom feeders. Its far more rewarding that way, to me.

I think that the coaches/parents of the better teams really don't care who they play. The ones that raise a stink are the ones on the other teams.

Based on the scores so far, maybe the pools are set up fairly...............or maybe its just early in the year and nobody really knows how 10 year olds are going to react on a given day...........or maybe there are a bunch of grown men that need to lighten up and enjoy life.

This does nto just happen in GA. Here in Calif it happens all the time. Especially in the big events. Just with one Team/Org. It get's pretty old every tournament. In the last SNIT this team was Whinning about our Draw as being easy... Well all 4 of the teams we faced in pool play made it to Monday's eliminations. So much for their whinning.LOL

Nice call travelballer55 - picked the final 4, missed on North Cobb but you hit on OTC for this weekend. I think North Cobb is a better team than they showed but until you take it to the field it is what it is.
