This tourney is just days away. Anyone here care to make some predictions for Division 1? <stirring the pot> :-)

Any dark horses in this group? Who will make the Gold bracket?

Hopefully, the weather holds up.

Good luck to all the teams participating. Leave yer cow bells and vuvuzelas at home!

The pick to win it has to be the Lonhorns coming out of pool B. I see Wills Park winning pool A, The Atlanta Blue Jays pool C and 6-4-3 pool D and my sleeper is Sig Park Falcons. With the weather looking pretty bad for the weekend the pool games have added weight.

With rain scheduled to move in Fri and Sat. what are the chances that the tournament gets cancelled? Just asking cause we are playing the early game on Sat and were planning on staying overnight up there since we will be traveling some distance and do not want to book a hotel if the tourny does not happen. Never played in the tourney or park and didn't know how fields drain or what others gut feelings were as to TD canceling it. Thansk

Listed below is what is currently posted.
ALL COACHES, PLAYERS, AND FANS:

We will post all weather updates for the tournament here in this section for the entire weekend. We will give what time the post went up and what time to expect the next post. I know that the weather forecast does not look good for this weekend, but this will be our only means of communication to all of the teams. There are close to 250 teams for the weekend and we can not take phone calls or make them every time we have a delay. You can also sign up for up to the minute updates with everything for the SLUGFEST by clicking on your age group schedule. Then find the icon labeled SIGN UP FOR POCKET UPDATES, and you will get everything right there on your cell phone. We look forward to hosting all of the clubs this weekend and praying for a stress free opportunity to play some baseball.

The last 10U pool game of the day is scheduled to start at 2:30pm. There is one first round bracket game at 5:30 and one more at 7:30 in each bracket. I say we start playing the bracket games just as soon as pool play is done, and we don't stop until we at least finish the entire first round. Then, there will only be 4 teams left to play on Sunday in the gold bracket. and 4 in the silver. Squeezing in 5 or 6 games between rain showers on Sunday will be much more likely to happen then trying to play 12.

I think one "dark horse" team to watch out for might be the Georgia Hurricanes out of Cumming, GA. I watched them play in a tourney in Jonesboro a couple weeks ago and they have a solid pitching staff. I would watch to see how they match up with Wills Park....evidently their coach has a long history of successful teams out of East Cobb.

Why are they classified as a single A (10A) team in USSSA? If they are as good as you say, then they should at least be a AAA/Major team.

There was a team last year called the Georgia Hurricanes. They were out of Smyrna. I believe this is a new team?

Slugfest update...
Wills Park 4 Georgia Hurricanes 3..this game went into extra innings great ball game.

Any other teams to look out for? 6-4-3 DP played great last night as well and really hit the ball.

Funny, both 6-4-3 and the Georgia Hurricanes are coached by two of the best former coaches East Cobb had. The Hurricanes will be as good as anybody as the season progresses. They do not have the talent at any position that Will Park has, yet they out played them the entire game. Although both of these teams have a 'dad' for a coach, both are coached by seasoned and well experienced baseball coaches. Watch them and you will see the difference in fundamentals being taught.

Is this Hurricane team the one scheduled to play in the Battle at the Branch this weekend? They are in the Single A group, they should roll the table.

I think it is the right team; USSSA reclassified them as 'A'. I went on their web site and it is interesting. I believe one of ECB Astros head coaches had his son leave ECB and play for the team for a few years. Not sure what the plan is this season, but if you look at the past success, it obviously has worked. It should be fun to watch as the season progresses. Lots of quality teams out there to keep an eye on.

This is one of the 3 Hurricanes teams from last year. The Smyrna team went to East Cobb. East Side Hurricanes and the Georgia Hurricanes were both in the "MUD-Fest".

As to why the GA Hurricanes are 10U A classified; it must be based on last year's record.

As to this year's team, I throughly enjoyed watching them play very good baseball. against Wills Park, a 10U Major classified team: Perfectly executed run downs, sacrifice and squeeze bunts and pick-offs.

Great job for the 3rd week in a row CANES, keep it going.

I'll give you guys an update on the 'Canes following the tourny, my son's team is in that "A" group as well. Not sure why we are single A either. I guess lack of participation in USSSA events is a negitive.

I just checked and they are listed under the AA group for the Battle at the Branch should be a good tourney.
