Papa has just returned from another great weekend of baseball near the beautiful campus of Auburn University. While there the 12U Georgia Bandits won their 5th straight USSSA Super NIT and what made this one even sweeter was the championship game that the Bandits prevailed 10-6 over what is turning out to be one the fiercest border rivals that we have ever had in Team Florida.
Both team's hitter's stepped up to the challenge of facing each other's ace's and it was back and forth for the first couple of innings of the battle but the war this weekend was won by the Bandits as they clawed their way to the winner's circle.
I thought that I could stop worrying about Team Florida for a while but on the way out of the park one of the Team Florida Coaches smiled and said that they would see us again this weekend. That's right this coming weekend brings the Florida boys to Bandit's country but that could be the least of both team's worries as many are saying that the Summitt Memorial Day tournament could be the toughest of the year so far. All Papa can say is welcome to the South where I think some of the best baseball in the country is played. I agree that this one could be the toughest of the year up to this point and the only thing that comes to my mind is "LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE." Good luck to all
P.S. - Just a little warning to all of my 12U baseball friends. Look out for this Valley Thunder bunch from Alabama. They are the real deal and don't seem to have a reverse. I like this team and expect that they will surprise a lot of you that haven't seen them yet. So when they jump up and bite you don't tell Papa that he didn't warn you.
I almost had a nervous breakdown watching it live and I will be dad gummed if I'll watch it again and we won. Much too nerve wracking. Picture in your mind two of the top 5 teams in the nation with both with their Aces ready to pitch. I was expecting a real low scoring game hoping that the Bandits could hold on but both of the starting pitchers lasted less than 3 innings and the difference might have been that the Bandits had their other Ace left and Team Florida was forced to piece together the middle innings and it was there that the Bandits opened a gap that they couldn't close. But I can promise you that both of these teams are for real and will have a lot to say before this season is over and will be factors in the Elite 32 come July.
I am a valley thunder dad and it was nice watching a team like the bandits. My son started at pitcher in east cobb vs bandits. The bandits are a well coached team. Would expect a bunch of cocky kids but what I saw was a classy bunch of 12 year olds. Good job bandits. Look forward to meeting y'all again
It was a great weekend of baseball on the beautiful plains in Auburn, AL. Gearing up for this weekend in Chattanooga, TN, which is going to be an awesome tournament! Go Team Florida!!
bamamom: It is always a pleasure watching your child play the game. What a great kid and he did an awesome job against my Bandits and my hat's off to his effort. I am just glad that he was out of innings and don't think for one minute that Papa did not know exactly how many outs he had left. I don't keep innings on all the pitchers but you can bet that I know every out the great one's have pitched. Thought that I might catch your coaches in a brain fart but they knew how many he had also and got him out of there just in the nick of time.
