The DSB Diablos will hold tryouts for their 13U teams (planning for two teams) on August 2nd and 4th at Dunwoody Park from 6:00-8:00. If you are a pitcher or catcher, plan to also attend a tryout on August 3rd (also at Dunwoody Park at 6:00). The teams will compete at the Major/AAA levels or AAA/AA depending on what the pitching dictates.
The DSB Diablos will once again be coached by former Dunwoody High School head coach Tom Bass who, along with his staff, has coached travel baseball 11 years. Coach Bass has coached at the high school level for over 20 years where he was a 6-time Region Coach of the Year, 2-time County Coach of the Year and the Georgia high school Coach of the Year in 2007.
The DSB Diablos will play a minimum of 60 games with a minimum of 40 practices. The team will play some games in the fall, but will work around fall sport commitments. The DSB Diablos will once again travel to world series play next summer wrapping up in mid-July.
More details will be provided at the tryouts. You can also email me at pyost@bellsouth.net or Coach Bass at tommbass11@gmail.com |

Thank you all for your questions. Here are some that I've received:
Q: When will the Fall Season start? A: We expect to start the season about the same time school starts in mid-August. The season will last through October and, depending on the weather, could last into early November.
Q: Will I be able to participate on my school's middle school team? A: Absolutely! The Diablos take time off during the school season so the players can play for their school's team.
Q: How many players will you have on the roster? A: We will carry a maximum of 14 on the roster.
Q: Where will practices and games take place? A: Most practices will be held at Dunwoody Park, though we have access to DHS and will use it from time to time. We'll also play some games at Dunwoody Park, but most games will be at parks around Atlanta. The one exception is the trip at the end of the season in early July when we travel to Panama City Beach, FL to play in the Grand Slam World Series.
Also, I mistyped my email address in the original posting. The correct email address is peyost@bellsouth.net.

FYI, there is never a cost to try out for a DSB team. |

We are planning to have two 13u teams again in 2012. Unlike prior years, both 13u teams will be called Diablos and will work more closely together. Both teams will get the benefit of both sets of coaches which include Tom Bass and Brian Hoffman. Brian is a former player and long-time travel and high school coach.
Both teams will emphasize baseball instruction, strength & conditioning, and competition. The practices focus on learning multiple positions and the finer points of the game. Our objective in the 13u program is to begin the necessary transition from the small field to varsity level baseball. Players are exposed to high school facilities and coaches and begin to understand what will be expected of them when they enter high school and try out for their school's team.
Come to the try out ready to play hard. The coaches are looking for players with heart. |

Congratulations to the 2011 13u Diablos on their 2nd place finish in the Grand Slam World Series in Panama City last week. It was a great week of baseball and fun at the beach.
Also congratulation to the 14u team on their 3rd place finish and the 15u team for their hard won CHAMPIONSHIP in the same tournament. Well done Diablos! |

I've received some more questions that I'll share here;
Q: Who will coach the second 13U team? A: The Diablos Maroon team will be coached by Brian Hoffman. Coach Hoffman has been coaching at DHS and DSB for several years. In the 2011 season, he coached the 15U team to 3 tournament championships, including the Grand Slam World Series. The Diablos Gold team will be coached by Tom Bass.
Q: Will I be able to play football in the fall and maintain a spot on the Diablos roster? A: Absolutely! We believe that, in the fall, football should come first. We will work the practice and game schedule around the football players on the team. In past years, the team held a practice or two during the week for anyone who could attend and then played some doubleheaders on Sundays. After the football season is over, there are typically a few weekends available for either a tournament or more doubleheaders. |

There will be a make up try out on August 8th at 6:00 at Dunwoody Park for anyone who was unable to attend on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Please send Coach Bass an email at tommbass11@gmail.com if you'll be attending that session. The 13U Diablos will be formed that week and players notified via the web site: www.dsbdiablos.com

There's one more opportunity to try out for the 2012 DSB Diablos 13U teams Monday, the 8th, at Dunwoody Park. Start time is 6:00. You can attend if you missed the tryouts last week or would like the coaches to have one more look before picking the teams. Teams will be selected this week and posted on the team's web site by Friday evening. |
