Is this the only dates for tryouts? My 8 yr old son would love to tryout but that 8/4 is the first day of school for him. Although he would love to skip school to play ball, I think his mother might have a problem with this!!

Are these truly open tryouts? Or are the teams only looking to fill 1 or 2 spots. Some parents that had there sons tryout last year were left with the impression that the teams were already selected prior to the evaluation. Can you please explain what the expectations are for this year?

Thank you for your interest in 6-4-3 DP Baseball. Below are some frequently asked questions about the try-outs and program in general. These can also be found on our website at www.643dpathletics.com.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Academy Team Tryouts

When and where are tryouts for academy teams?

Each team has its own, annual tryout. The dates for the 2011-2012 tryouts are posted in a release on the 6-4-3 DP homepage. All tryouts will be held at Aviation Sports Complex in Marietta, Georgia.

What should players bring with them to camps and/or clinics?

Players should always wear running shoes/sneakers, baseball pants, and a baseball hat. Players should also bring their baseball gear (cleats, glove, bat, helmet) and a drink.

Who will coach my team?

The 2011-2012 roster of coaches will be posted in the coming days. In addition, 6-4-3 DP Baseball has a staff of instructors to work throughout the year with our academy teams.

Are there any open spots on the teams?

On an annual basis, every team is required to conduct a full tryout. There are no reserved spots for anyone. Every year we choose a team of 12-18 athletes (depending on age group) and commit to them for one year. After the current year is over, every player has to earn a spot on next year’s team.

Will you have more teams at a certain age level than you did last year?

In order for us to add a Jaguar and/or Panther team to an age group, we have to have the right coach, or group of coaches, that will represent 6-4-3 DP Baseball properly. In addition, we must have a group of kids that we can coach up and improve as a team. Note: We also may have less teams at certain age levels for the same reason. The number of academy teams at each age group will be posted in the coming days.

Do you travel a lot?

Generally, we will take our older groups (15-17 year olds) on 1 or 2 out-of-town trips a year. We do not take trips simply to leave town as it is not necessary with the baseball talent and events in the metro Atlanta area. If we think we can improve the recruiting process for our players, we will travel. However, there are a lot of opportunities here in Georgia for players to showcase themselves.

For our younger groups, the decision to travel is determined by each team (and its parent group). Early in the season and throughout the season, each team's parents will get together to discuss possibilities of travel for different, special events (ex. Cooperstown, Disney, etc.)

Will my kid play?

We are strong believers that if we pick your kid, it is now our job to help him/her improve. The only way that happens is by playing. Throughout the majority of the year, every kid gets a fair chance and is never put in a "doghouse" by a coach. In end of the year, big tournaments, the lineup usually gets tighter and playing time may become more of a reward for positive performance. Coaches will do their best to prepare players for these unique times when lineups are tight and earned.

If I do (or my child does) NOT make an academy team, is it still possible to be a part of 6-4-3 DP Baseball?

Yes. Absolutely. We hope players elect to train with 6-4-3 DP Baseball regardless of where they play travel ball or high school ball. 6-4-3 DP Baseball offers private and group lessons in Batting, Pitching, Defense and Catching throughout the year, open to any interested ball player. Please read more about our instructional offerings.

643...thanks for your reply but you did not answer my question. We live in Douglas County and the first day of school is 8/4. How is my 8U child going to tryout for your program when the tryout is scheduled for 9am? My wife and I both work so again how are working parents to get our children to your tryouts? Again, is this going to be the only tryout for this age group? He would love to tryout but a tryout at 9am on a weekday and on the first day of school is impossible for us and I would assume many to attend. Any answer to this direct question is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Sorry for not answering your question. We would be happy to try to find a second date to hold an 8U try-out if this conflicts with the start of school. It would be great to know how many kids might be affected by this.

My son is eligible to play in 2 age groups. He currently plays up a year. Does he need to be registered and participate in both tryouts to be considered for both age groups?

Your son should come to the tryout associated with his actual age as of 4/30/2012.

A listing of all head coaches along with other important information will be available at each tryout. Thank you for your interest. We look forward to seeing you at one of our tryout clinics.

643dpathletics - According you your website you are holding 14u tryouts on August 3rd at 5:00 PM. Can I show up at 4:00 to register my son for the tryout? Is there a fee? Last question: is the academy team a travel team?
