About to ramp up....Should be an exciting year...I know one thing for sure- just when you thought you knew who changed teams, coaches, team names, etc- you realize it is impossible to figure it all out. It has been an interesting off season.

How many 14U teams does EC have this year? Anyone know anything about the EC Starrs?

The EC Stars are coached by Wes Rynders, who coaches the 16U Astros with Guerry. I believe Kyle Hatchell is helping him as well. They will probably be the #2 team at 14U. (I am sure that will start great debate. Especially by the other teams in that age group. I don't have a kid at this age group, so I don't say this with any Bias.)

Way to early to tell! There are only a few rosters even up on the ECB website. Have no idea who went where.....

The Roadrunners got started up today. We have another practice tomorrow as well. I wasn't there today, but it sounds like they did well and have all grown quite a bit. Looking forward to the season.

I'm thinking it will be a slow start to the season with this age group. Alot of 9th graders playing for their high school team will make that their 1st priority. I'm thinking late April or early May before teams show up with their complete staff. I know some schools won't allow to thier players to play travel ball while they are playing for them. What is the 1st big tourney out there that teams are looking to play? This would be for the major teams out there.

Which teams are actually going to formally "class" themselves a major team?
Astros, Chili Dogs, MGBA
Gwinette Titans,
Stixx
Which others?

Smoke,

It looks like they all just kept growing. The ones that were already big, got bigger and started to fill out more. The ones that were on the smaller side have all taken off and are trying to catch up to the others. All I know is that I only look down at one or two of them and I'm 5'10". They make me feel pretty small......but I'll still kick in in the tail if I have to! Hahahaha!

It should be an interesting year.

Can't wait to go watch some ball games this weekend. The TC tournament is packed full of good teams. Should be some battles on the diamond.

Nice job to the EXPOS then. I just love when teams that think they have "stacked" themselves get a taste of the medicine that is hard to swallow. Class wins, hands down. Dissin' kids cuz an evaluation is sub par, instead of developing, tsk,tsk.......love that SP Hawks, Bandits, etc have kept a good core together for many seasons. Hawks have taken it to several teams, that lost b/c of lack of fundamentals, or ego. The SP Hawks coach posted a nice synopsis of wins, heart, and his boys. Way to go COACH! Way to build confidence in those boys! Instead of how some other "skipper" handle their young men.........with verbal lashing, or embarrassment. Have any of you walked by a team post game talk, after a loss, when the coach is talking trash to his boys, all their heads are down :)
I don't recall mention of coaching errors, line up snafu's or that lack of practice could have been any part of the equation.
Those teams that execute consistently are a relief for sore eyes. The teams that take advantage of mental errors of their opponents, make your mark! Hooray for the teams that don't panic when they fall behind by 2, but their manager puts them, and the kids, in the position to suceed..............even if it ends in a loss.

Where did everyone go?
Where is everyone playing this weekend?
What happened to the G Titans?
We've seen some 14U teams stepping it up to 15U and wood only tournaments? How about your team?
What's your end of season looking like?
What's the injury report?

Been wondering the same thing myself. I spend more time on the 15U forums lurking but I check these every now & then. Here are my thoughts on what I've watched and noticed:

Astros - best team at this age, bar none. Makes sense because they get to choose who they want, but they're well coached and very deep. Picking up the big kid from GBC to play third didn't hurt either.
Stars - a lot of kids who were good at age 12 and 13 but haven't really lived up to most expectations, I don't think.
Expos - may be the 2nd best team at this age group. Well coached and play good ball. If they throw one of their top 2 pitchers, they seem to be able to compete with anyone.
Rangers - very good AAA team. Maybe the best AAA team I've seen but lacks the pitching depth to play with the big boys on day in/day out basis. Fun to watch these guys though. Well coached.
Pride - another very good team. Obviously have the talent to win big because those teams they beat in North Carolina to win that Super NIT are all good teams (I've seen Diamond Cutters play a few times and those boys are good). Also watched them leading Astros 2-1 this week until Pride pulled their pitcher. Astros broke it open against the next pitcher who struggled to throw strikes. Well coached team that is very, very big. May be the 2nd largest team at East Cobb behind the Astros.
Reebok - this team is an enigma. On paper, they should be doing better than they are in tournaments. I know they had one kid with a hurt arm but not sure about rest of the roster.
Road Runners - one of the better hitting teams in the age group (maybe the best).
Team Georgia - played a few very good games recently. Seem to be doing very very well because the roster doesn't seem to stack up against some of the ECB ones but these guys have won some big games against those ECB teams.
Signature Park - haven't seen them lately but they looked good in the early Triple Crown tournaments.
Gwinnett Titans - biggest enigma in the group. Got into Elite 32 by virtue of coming in 2nd in a Super NIT when Beyel Brothers already had a bid. But they didn't play in the USSSA Major State tourney, so doesn't that mean that they cannot go to the Elite 32? Regardless, they've been a non-factor for most of the season, dropping out of the one big tournament that I saw they were entered.

The last 2 you mentioned: a lot of roster turnover due to Gwinnett summer ball at the high schools and/or parents wising up.

Pretty good feedback.
Astros: Agree, but next year it'll be new kids and some gone from existing squad. Well coached. Lotta talent there that needs continued development. They all mature at their own rate.
Stars: This is when we start to see separation. It's starting.....
Expos: Agree and also well coached.
Rangers: Unfortunately pitching is too much of an emphasis at this age. I see it much improved at 15u and up, less focused on W's too. Separated AAA from Major,
Pride: Agree and they have been playing alot. Expect them to do well at Elite 32.
Reebok: alot of hoopla at the beginning, but not all is gold that is attached to a name brand.
RR: Always a good team, in the running, year in and out.
TG:Not as good as they have been in the past, Good instruction. Some player issues with kids that were better when they were younger but baseball skills have to get better or the game passes you by. Stud at 10 not so much once pitching gets better and holes in your swing can't be compensated with by arms, flicks and big barrels,,,,, and the BBCOR bats will dramatically impact all the boys, at 15u and up. If you can't hit you sit, or PO.
SP: They've been playing around in some of the 15U HS format tournaments. Great baseball IQ, great development. Saw them beat the pants off the
G Titans by playing the game right, with class and with better fundamentals.
G Titans: Probably done. Have seen most of their quality players on other teams. Lack of fundamentals catches up with you eventually. Head hunting catches up with you eventually.

You guys are being too hard on a couple teams. I have had the chance to see the Stars and Team Reebok play on a few occasions, and they are both very strong teams, with some elite players. The Stars have gone deep in several tournaments, and have really battled the Astros on a few occasions. Reebok started slowly, but judging a team while high school ball is in session is silly. Recently they won the Triple Crown Georgia State Championship, beating the Roadrunners along the way (I believe that they are 2-1 against the RR this year) and made it to the finals last week of the AABC East Cobb tournament, beating the Stars in the semi-finals (losing to the Astros in the finals). A few weeks ago, they lost to the Expos 3-2 in their one meeting - a very tough game. Neither team has enough truly elite pitchers to have one on the mound every inning of a long tournament, but that is true of every team except the Astros.

This time of the year, fallout. At least 2 of the teams mentioned didn't make it thru May, never mind the season. Parents wising up sounds about right....Too crazy.

Who has any 14u season left? Our team is done.
My son is now playing 15u, thru October. Getting ready for HS season, as a frosh. Played 2 Perfect game tourneys, Parkview Tournie, NBS, etc. playing with wood and drop 3 changes the tactical game. He mostly plays one game per day, 2 practices a week and while winning is a nicety, all the focus is on getting better. Enjoying it!

Events still to go for the season:

Perfect Game BCS in Fort Meyers, FL (Roadrunners, Pride, Longhorns, MGBA, Expos, Canes, one of the Chain teams, and Team Raw)

Elite 32 (Astros, Pride)

CABA (Roadrunners, Stars, Reebok)

TBS (Astros, maybe Roadrunners)

Triple Crown (Alpharetta Cyclones and possibly Roadrunners)

I'm sure I'm missing a few, but that's the ones I know about. And I'm sure that all of those teams would tell you it's about getting better as well. Still lots of ball to be played by some I guess.
