19 teams in it.. looks like four need to be ready to play Monday morning.

Thoughts on the matchups?

I like the 3 teams in the Collins bracket. Gamers should take this one as long as there pitching holds up. Gainesville Braves are definetely a favorite also, great all around team along with Coal Mt Storm...

Plenty of teams there that I have never seen or know anything about.

I would say Crossroads, Gainesville, Patriot Baseball, Gamers, and Coal Mountain all should be strong.

Still a bunch of 11/12 year olds... you can never be sure what you are going to get.

The Crossroads team that is playing is our A/AA team not the AAA/Major...

Gamers, Coal Mountain, Gainesville, Patriots baseball, North Gwinnett should battle it out.

Yes congrats to the Gainesville Braves but they had a much easier path to the ship. Coal Mtn Storm had to play the only majors team in the tournament (Elite Gamers Red) 2 times and beat Gainesville in pool play. Gainesville then brought in a player off of their 12U team who went 3-3 with the key RBI's in the game to beat a weekend pitching staff storm team in extra innings.

Good job Braves! Coal Mountain was impressive this weekend and since recent player changes seemed stronger than ever! Great run tourney, first-class! Highly recommend for next year.

Sounds like sour grapes...LOL. Apparently CM Storm and SMT kids playing on each others teams the past couple of tournaments. Seems like SMT made it to the ship this weekend with mostly their core kids. With lots of anticipated activity for next year.....is there a merge in the future and who will make the cut when it's all said and done?

Gotta love travel ball!

That's all part of travel ball.... Yes, gotta love it but it's not for everyone. The great thing is there are so many more important things in life than baseball but if you choose travel ball it's all about the players having fun and making lasting memories; not the losses, wins, or even who's playing with who.

I agree and disagree. If you choose or are involved in a high level of travel ball over rec ball or a lower level of travel ball, it's more about the competition or level of the competition, the ability of your team members to participate at that same level, the team's you're playing and there is no way you can tell me that if the player on the field is competitive at that "or any level" it's not about win's, losses and the actual battle on the field inning after inning.

All of my children themselves elected to play travel sports / more competitive sports than not. They go onto the field wanting to win but knowing there will be days they lose but either way they're wanting to hit the practice field afterwards once again to be ready for the next game or next level.

If I told them it doesn't matter if you win or lose or which level of teams we'd be playing as long as you have fun, they'd think I was crazy.

They've all wanted to be surrounded by team members that hustle from start to finish, care if they win or lose and play at the highest level possible and this carried through from about 6 year old ball thru college (for those that have graduated). They all played when they were four and five and it was instilled early on that playing to win in life and sports is very important. They still have fun however.

Those that are still playing love to compete for positions on their own team but play whatever position without question that most helps the team they're on and without question from my wife or I.

No daddy ball or mommy ball even when we are both on the field at the respective sports coaching or assisting. You can ask my children if they got to play shortstop, goalie or quarterback just because I or their mom was coaching. The answer would be a simple "no way".

Winners are molded and not born and you have to have the right mentality as a parent and child. These kids today are playing at a higher level than we as parents did at the same age for the most part.

I said that to a dad last week and he said flatly "I was a stud and my boy ????? just isn't there yet". I replied that "People told me I was very good. I worked hard at every aspect of the game but I have ensured that all of my children have been faster, stronger and better overall than I was and as long as they're having fun at the highest level they'll keep working for it".

So yes, it's about having fun but in travel ball and especially major level travel ball, that relates differently than rec ball or the lower levels of travel ball.

Yes you are going to lose and you have to be prepared to do so but it does matter whether you win or lose. Ask your child next time and see what they say. If they say it doesn't matter whether we win or lose as long as we have fun, one of two things: Either they're THAT GOOD and they're content just keeping their numbers up or they need to step down and play a lower level or surround themselves with a team with the same mentality overall.

Yes it's about having fun which relates to busting your butt every chance you get to be better prepared the next time you step on the field, enjoying time with your team on and off the field and making lasting memories and winning.

Finally it does matter who you're playing and the level of your competition. I have seen two of my sons during the course of a year lose ground so to speak when their coaches wouldn't get in higher level tournaments because they didn't want to get pounded, thus playing teams who they could beat in open level tournaments and so on.

I made decisions to move them to other team's while they were young and they stepped their game back up and now continue to improve because they're surrounded by a different mentality from the coaches, kids and even parents.

p.s. We do fly frisbees, bowl, swim, fish, play video games and even read together, (hated to mention that last one),
but as long as they are pursuing their sports with the dream of playing thru college or more, it is about having that work hard and play harder to win mentality.

You are correct. I was merely saying that first and foremost the kids have to be having fun! It is very competitive but at the end of the day the kids have to be happy and love what they're doing. There are lots of great teams out there and sometimes it's the parents that take all the fun out of it!

It does matter who you are playing but if a team picks up a player occasionally to help in any given tournament that's normal. Think that was taken a little out of context.

Think sometimes the parents need to take a step back and just let the kids enjoy themselves, they'd also have more fun!

You are definately right there. The parents sometimes do "interfere" so to speak whether verbally at the games or dealing with coaches, umpires etc. etc. and when sharing things that are going on with a team or other players and coaches that their own child really doesn't need to know about.

The kids need to focus on the sports (game) or activitys they are passionate about.

I apologize if I took anything out of context.

What does CM Storm and SMT kids playing on each others teams have to do with the Brian Mccann Summer Classic topic? Talking about sour grapes..

No sour grapes here....LOL. Let me make the connection - lots of teams are using pickup players (too many to list including CM Storm) and it seems you are slighting the tourney win by G'ville Braves. Are you saying they used an illegal player or someone just playing up?

In the end, a pickup shouldn't be the reason why someone wins or losses a tourney. Give the Braves their props and leave it at that. Good luck the rest of the year.

Sounds like foolz was just giving a recap and their opinion and did say congrats to the Braves! CM and the Braves are both talented teams and had a great tourney and am sure they'll both have lots of future successes. Not sure either what SMT has to do with the Brian Mccann tourney since they weren't in it but kudos to them for a great tourney this past weekend!
