Have all the top teams finalized their rosters, and if so who will be the teams to beat? I see a few teams pretty much stayed the same (Bulldogs, Hurricanes, etc.) Do you think those teams that made few changes will be able to keep up with the "stacked" teams. I see a few are still looking for players on this forum....a little late in the game if you ask me. The 12u forum is very quiet this fall. I know it is way too early to make predictions, but it is fun to speculate.

Very Biased and Uneducated Opinion only!!!

Teams to Beat
Game On -My personal favorite. If roster holds, they will compete very well.
Astros - Gotta respect them even though they have not played.. I think the new coach will keep them together and they will be strong. Not sure if their roster is full???
Savannah - Very good returning team, Hope they make the trip to Atlanta as much as possible, they are capable of beating anyone.
Alpharetta (Team Ga Red)- Good year last year, should continue????
643- Made some changes, should be very competitive, but haven't played as a complete team yet.
RBI- Good year last year, should continue????

Others-
Ringold- ?????Assuming they come back intact
Yard Dogs?????Do they have a complete team yet???
ECB Braves -?????Roster???
Nelson- ??????Had some good wins this fall.Roster???
Team Raw?????New team???
OTC- Always competitive. Final Roster???
Canes-???Played allot of 12U last year, could pay off big this year???

I am sure I missed a few team names, really looks to be a fun spring. I see lots of teams that have some great kids that are capable of creating some upsets, however at this point, I only see 5 or so that i feel are capable of playing deep in the big tournaments on a consistent basis.

Whatever happened to the old Dacula Falcons from a couple of years back, the Red gamers, Red Sox and Home Plate Burford / Dyal out of this age group. I would have bet money a few years back that one or all or at least two of four of those teams would have been top tier in this age group at this current age. Any info out there?

You are right WAREAGLE and just to add. I love watching the cat and mouse game as to who ends up where. Game On was the big surprise this fall by attracting great talent through intruction, & helping out with travel expenses. WPB could upset a few. They are bringing in MLB/Minor instructors free to their players and also cover game tournament fees. They have added couple of major players since Fall. If WPB picks up two more major players they could upset several. Looks like a great Spring and you got to bring your A game to win a tourney.

I can only speak for myself but I do feel that it applies to most of the kids/families on Game On.

Team Make Up by city:
Lagrange-2
Newnan - 1
Albany-1
Jesup-1
Peachtree City- 1
Dublin-1
Mcdonough-1
Wilcox county -1
Macon- 2

I joined Game On because the area that I live in, is not large enough to support a major level team. I was spending more time and money driving to and from practice an hour away than we were actually practicing. Yes, the fact that we are saving some expenses helps, but only in the fact that I can now use my money to cover lessons and practice in town and hotel and travel expenses for tournaments.

The "appeal" of the team, was to be able to be on a team of kids with similiar ablities, and to be able to play the best teams around and compete. Not to play for free.

Splitter, thanks for the kind words. We are trying to build a nice program for our area and appreciate the press:)

bballguy, you are right in the sense that parents may feel entitled to play with us not having to pay to play and some may feel that they can do as they please by not having skin in the game, but we have not seen that to date as the parents obviously see the value not paying anything, but also see that their kid is progressing with all the professional training and field time they get. We went from AA to Majors in 1 year which explains the high turnover in roster. We just couldn't compete at the Major level if we kept the same roster. For the most part, we switch roster spots because of the parents, not the kids, but when we were bumped by USSSA to majors, we just needed to keep core and find more qualified talent at the Major level. Since I started coaching this team, we have only lost 1 player that I wasn't anticipating and that was to the Astros a few months ago. I wish the kid and his family the best and hope that they treat the kid right and family and kid are happy with their decision. No hard feelings here.

Most programs I see out there have a high turnover rate for whatever reasons. Now that we are in the Majors and have the kids we have, I think you will see that the majority of our kids are here to stay for a few years coming.

As for being there in the end, we will work hard and let it play out on the field. My boys will be ready either way:)

Good luck to all of you out there and can't wait til the Spring.

Rich

WAREAGLE...I repeat your right. My post was to Wareagles comment about upsets which WPB already accomplished this fall. We had a chance to tryout for Game On and blew it because I looked where they were before getting the facts. I regret it. Only two teams I've known to offer free MLB/Minor training, bats, fees,& unlimited practice time. I will be at both tryouts next time.

Bball guy you are right also when you talk about parents. Honestly, I dont think it has to do with Free baseball as much as character, ethics and code. The last time I got free baseball (well $50) was Dizzy Dean and most stayed but then.... We all know about the turnover in travel for what ever reason. Heck, we seen whole teams vanish. Just look at the USSSA busted list. They all paid.

If you were to say you get all this and its free... this baseball nut would kick down the door to check it out. I think this is the last easy yr. to get on one of these teams. On the other hand if I was a Manager of another team I would be concerned about my stud going over to check them out. Seems that there upsets on and off the field already. Your a lucky man WAREAGLE good luck. WE snoozed...

BBallguy, thanks and for the most part the parents do. I really started doing it for free as I have a lot of biz contacts that help out with sponsors and all the money we make at tourneys goes to the kids. It takes a lot of my time, but well worth it as I love the game and coaching the boys. That and the fact that baseball at higher levels is entirely too much these days and a lot of parents want their kid to compete, but just don't have the money in this great economy of ours. Hopefully things will turn for the better for a lot of people with the new year approaching. If not, we will do our best here to maintain our sponsorships and fundraising efforts so that baseball is essentially free like it was when we grew up.

I really don't need the parents to thank me for anything. I am thanked every time I see the boys play :)

Good to see what WPB is doing especially in this day an time. Asking parents and players to work events and fundraisers is not too much to ask really promotes work ethic that is drastically needed with new generation. And I've always found when someone is doing something for the right reason the general public will make false accusations especially if he offers free baseball at major level with other programs making better than average wages of 12u baseball.

lilbigtown, thanks and YES, "ALL FREE HERE". We ask the parents to volunteer for fundraising, they do not have to and it is not held against them or their kid if they do not participate. For the most part, they ALL help when their schedules allow. It's all good and all strictly voluntary.
