Well, what is the latest in the 12U saga around town. Who is splitting up and who's not? |

Almost all split up to some degree. Most lose 2-4 and pick up the same # from elsewhere. I know the ECB Stars disbanded and each player moved on to different teams. Also heard that there will be at least 3 new ECB teams at 12U.....Dilution of talent?? Maybe. We will see.
12U is a pivotal year. |

From what I understand, the Stars players went to the new Astros 12U team (5 kids), the Braves (2 or 3 kids), Kennesaw Extreme (1 or 2 kids), and Ga Roadrunners (1 or 2 kids). The 11U Longhorns coach will be the new coach of the ECB Astros team (12U).
Now that the majority of the new Astros team is made up of the fastest and most powerful Stars players, and have great coaches, they should be pretty dangerous. The Astros will probably have the 2 fastest players from the Stars and will likely pick up the fastest kid on the Kennesaw Extreme. They are an extremely quick team now.....with the 3 most powerful kids from the Stars to boot.....not to mention the 3 of the best pitchers from the Stars. The Stars had fast kids, but they were not used in the lineup advantageously. Look for the Astros to use the speed they now have in the top of the order, and the new pitching correctly. The Braves look to be quite improved, but once again will have to face the Astros, Roadrunners, and Jaguars each week.............not pretty.
The ECB Colt 45's will be a pretty strong team and should give the Braves a run for their money, the Titans will be improved, and 6-4-3 now has a new 12 U team (or at least try outs sometime soon).
The ECB group decided to start ANOTHER new team (Tarheels??). Not sure if this is a good thing. Dilution of talent? Probably fair to say, Yes. But, Major teams are Astros, Roadrunners, Jags, Braves, 45's. The rest are AAA in northern GA.

ECB Stix....Astros Select Team??? Not really...The Astros are the Longhorns in Astros gear, along with a few additions and subtractions to form a team...I am sure they will be good, but lets wait and see how long before that ship sinks....And it will...Most of you know why, but I am not going to get into it.
Also, the 12U ECB Warriors need to be added to the list. So that makes 10 12u teams vs 8 last year.... |

Here's what I know. The Stars coach is moving out of state and taking one of the Stars power hitters with him. The Roadrunners apparently picked up the Stars number 1 pitcher. Good for them. The Braves picked up the Stars leadoff, number 2 and number 4 hitters -- their shortstop, top catcher/ss and first baseman/catcher. (I believe one of these kids the Astros almost got). They also picked up a big lefty pitcher from the Roadrunners. The Xtreme may have picked up another of the Stars top pitchers. The remaining kids (outfielders, third/second baseman, catcher/third basemen who hit 3rd for them) went to play for coach Shook.
I'd look for all these teams to be improved. The Roadrunners will remain top notch. Clearly, the Braves have added elite level players. Whether they will have the overall depth will be the question. The Astros are clearly improved, adding the Stars number 3 hitter and the kid who pitched for Kennesaw a few years ago is the real value, especially when added with the current Xtreme player mentioned in the other post who can run, big catcher from the Roadrunners and 12U drop down pitcher from last year they acquired. I think they are planning on carrying around 15 so they should have a lot of depth off the mound and late in the game to pinch hit/run which should give them an edge.
Of course, none of this chatter means anything until the Spring. Jaguars are still the team to beat, having the best overall combination of hitting/pitching of any of the teams.

Going Deep, you make a good point. I neglected to consider the players the Longhorns/Astros lost from last year, especially their middle infielders who left for another ECB team and third baseman who left near the middle or end of last year for the Roadrunners. These three have not been replaced. But I still think the Astros pitching depth should make up for their defensive shortcomings.

Goin Deep ...if you did a little research would know this is a totally different team than last years Horns.Time will tell.As for the Braves they will be a better team, no doubt. I just hope they don't have the same problems that the stars ran into this year. |

The Tarheels is another 12U East Cobb team to add to the list, so that makes ten teams. |

ECB Stix...You missed my point, and it doesnt require research.... I understand it is a different team, but Tigers dont change their stripes....I was chuckleing at the notion that you said it was an Astros SELECT team, as if they were the 14u or above, who actually do for the most part get the best of the best...Not necessarily the case here. Look around at ECB and North Atlanta. Top caliber players on almost every team...Dont get me wrong, they will be top notch....Didnt mean to offend you if I did. |

Defense is a strong point, particularly up the middle, but you can never have too many versitle athletes that you can put anywhere... |

Don't forget about the Kennesaw Extreme and the Hobgood Extreme. Both will be competitive teams. The Kennesaw Extreme picked up two or three more players that either played up last year or played on very competitive teams last year. The Hobgood Extreme is well coached and they have a couple of kids who can really throw.
The 6-4-3 DP 12U team will be an interesting one to watch. You can never count them out and they will be fast and well coached.
I think East Cobb has their hands full when you start putting together 10 teams at one age group. Where and when to practice? Talent level? 120 kids that are 12U and travel team worthy??? Might be a bit watered down this year. |

Most of the ECB 12's are STILL looking for players..They should take the weakest team and just let the other teams draw from there..I think to may folks what to do their OWN thing and make a new team..Everyones selling point this year will be Cooperstown..But there are to many teams at 12 at ECB..Astro, Braves, 45's, Noles, Yankees, Horns, Warriors, White Sox, Reds, and last but not least Titans..and here is how I think they may stack up
Astros Braves 45's Noles Horns Titans Yankees Warriors??? Reds??? Sox????
Some of these teams pitching isn't going to be very deep at all and they will still TRY and be a Major team..Some will be a HIGH AAA team. But that the thing about baseball..There is room for all levels no matter what the coach may think they have the talent to play.... |

I totally agree about ECB 12U being watered down this year! If a team is not playing at the major level they should NOT play at ECB! The talk at the end of this season was that several teams were being cut, but instead they added 2 teams??? I agree with Speed Kills about dropping several teams and spreading the talent that is left to the teams that need players. It looks like the only teams not looking for players are the Astros and the Seminoles and it sounds like the Astros(old Longhorns)once again have way too many players! Can't wait to see how this all pans out! Here's how I think it will stack up with the EBC teams.....
Braves Astros Seminoles 45's Titans Longhorns Yankees
The rest are new and one played AAA, so they are all a toss up to me.
Reds??? Warriors??? White Sox???

You guys are correct about the scramble for talent this year at 12u. It is nuts and can be handled a little bettter in the future. Are we talking national major level or local major level? You got a couple of teams that can really be classified as national major level just as the Jags, Roady's, 'stros and Bravos. Oops, only mentioned 2 from ECB and may have missed another one or two in the state. If we are talking about major in the state there is going to be some hellish baseball games played throughout this state. Keep in mind that ECB is not the only place where there is a bunch of talent. The other so called "majors" will not lay down to the pre season top dogs. That is not how baseball is played here in GA. If you are going to win on Sunday in this age group you had better bring it. If some one wants to use the watered down arguement then define it. The talent at an age goup is what it is. What will having only a few stacked teams do for baseball in the area? Its great at the older levels if you want to travel the country and play similar teams. WHat the heck will it do for our guys at 12? Just some thoughts here. I love the competition and the cream will rise to the top and a bunch will be striving to knock them down too. Watch out when they all get some real arm pit hair. ECB Stack rankings only:
Astros Braves
COlt45's Noles
Longhorns Titans White SOx Yankees
Reds Warriors
This was the best post ever on the 12uTryout page "looking for 4 power hitters with speed, if you can pitch in the 60's that is a plus". Love it. 12u baseball is incredible. Take a kid to the park this week and have a blast! |

The diggest differance will be pitching with the new teams..When you are a new team they seem to not do very well..The new Longhorns will probably be the best NEW team because they have some of the tallent off of the old teams..Horns,Titans,and 45's the other teams are going to be up in the air..From the 12u teams looking board there are a total of about 8 players needed for the teams still looking..That is a lot of players needed for ECB..Now that really sounds like the teams are watered down, and they aren't even full yet..Imigne what they will pick up jut to get a full roster. I know it's ECB but someone needs to step in and do something FAST...Go back to about 6 strong teams because some of these are not going to be anywhere near the rest of the MAJOR teams in GA.. |

Watered down: Teams picking subpar talent just to have a team at ECB. When I think of ECB I think of the ASTROS name. the National Championships that are won..13u and 14u Astros won Elite 32 @ Disney. Some of the new ECB teams won't win a game as a Major or high AAA they just don't have the talent. People talk about whats going on on some of these new teams and believe me some of these teams have picked up kids not becasue they are the best, but they are the only ones they could find. Thats not ECB. I was at a tryout and a coach said he doesn't have that ECB money to play there. Some people may feel that since there kid is playing at ECB it means something. It only means something if you are on a GOOD team with GOOD coaches..Bottom line the talent is not there on all teams!!!!!!!!!!! |

The Astros also picked up three of the Blazers best players, including their fastest player and one of best outfielders in the state,(leadoff/CF), their best Catcher, and a top pitcher/infielder.
They have no track record, but look for them to be tough. |

Astros played in a tournament in Macon and won it. They also played in a tournament in Dalton and came in second to the Mill Creek Hawks. Now will this be the same team that shows up in the Spring?? Probably not, but this is going to be a very good team when spring does get here.. |
