Triple Crown Elite Invitational appears to be a pretty solid field this weekend. Not nearly as many teams are signed up as some of the previous tournaments and some of the top teams appear to be taking the weekend off. Looks like there could be some good matchups though. I'm guessing NI Dodgers will be the team left standing on Sunday, but Gainesville and South DeKalb Tribe could make a run. Thoughts? |

I think you are pretty close to right on. Interesting that Braves and Dodgers have identical pool schedules, which means they face each other. That head to head matchup might be enough to get their better pitchers out on the mound on Saturday. Should be a fun weekend! |

It's one of the 3's to lose, that's for sure. The playing field is leveled a little without the use of the rocket launcher that G-Ville used and had taken away this past weekend, so who knows how potent they are without the Zero Dark...
Tribe will prob have 1-seed, but it's all about how the bracket settles as to whether (or who) meets where... In a relatively shallow tourney, I have to give the nod to the Dodgers as well-- due to pitching and coaching. |

Much better showing so far in this tourney for the ECB teams. Let's see if they can put it together during bracket play and challenge the Dodgers. Good luck tomorrow to all teams. Looks like it will be another beautiful day for baseball! |

I was wrong on the 1-seed, but I see Tribe coasting to the 'ship to face the Dodgers. G-Ville isn't looking like much w/o the Dark Zen "rocket launcher". Although Colt orange may have figured out bat-gate 2017 with their 30 homers. |

For those who didn't attend the TC Elite Invitational, the format called for three pool games. Not sure how cost efficient this would be for promoters and or organizations, but every tournament should be played this way. Even with only ten teams, you got a more accurate showing of team strength. Not as many first round upsets when you have to use your ace in the pool
Some teams pitched lots of kids while others leaned on a few. This resulted in some teams being able to win in the pool, but run out of arms in the bracket. If every tournament were played this way teams would be forced to develop more pitching and not just lean on a small core of kids over and over again. This would also give the hitters more success early in the season as they would not be seeing everyone's 1 – 4 pitchers over and over again.
Promoters, please give us three games in the pool or make all brackets double elimination!
Now, without further ado...
AN IDIOT'S TC ELITE INVITATIONAL PERFORMANCE RANKING
Once again, NOT a ranking of teams from this season More like that RPI thing that they use in college basketball Who you played this weekend and how did you do against them
1 - South Dekalb Yard Dogs Yes, I'm calling them the Yard Dogs; those pick ups are ALL contributing (close your eyes in the stands and it even sounds like you're playing the Yard Dogs) Most impressively, won the tournament without one of their main players participating Added the former #3 pitcher from the Dodgers to their staff last weekend and it is immediately paying off I didn't agree two weeks ago, but the CURRENT roster has a legitimate argument to be included in GA/FLA
2 – Ninth Inning Dodgers Actually had the most impressive tournament run (5-1 overall record with a one run loss in the finals)
3 – Gainesville Braves 0-2 against the Dodgers; 3-0 against everyone else
4 – ECB Colt 45's Orange Beat SD in bracket play by holding them to five runs Lost to SD in the semis when they ran out of arms and gave up 14 runs
5 – East Cobb Astros Starting to consistently beat the teams that they are supposed to beat
Honorable Mention – Dunn Right Dawgs Red Had to swim in the pool without a number of key players and got crushed (SD run ruled them 20 to 0) With a more complete roster for bracket, advanced to quarters and lost to Dodgers by one
What do you guys think? |

I think any of those 5 teams can win these tournaments each week. Got to see all of these teams this weekend and the 5 you mention are all strong. South Dekalb is really good but they're not head and shoulders above any of the other 4 noted. (They beat up on a Dunn Right team (that clearly isn't he same team they were last year) by 20 runs and lost to Astros and colt 45's orange. They were good enough to take the title but they sure didn't have a cakewalk getting there. The east Cobb teams look to be getting their act together after a slow start this spring. Not sure if Gainesville was in full force given the vacation week. Dodgers look really good too.
The umps at this tourney also need to toughen up. Ignore the crowd when they disagree with a call instead of being offended and bowing up. You don't see high school/college umps screaming turning to the stands when the fans disagree with them. Put on your big boy pants when you take the field. |

And let me add something to my post
Don't want to seem as if I am saying that South Dekalb is ONLY winning by simply dropping Yard Dog players into the lineup
It takes work to add players, even talented ones like the ones they picked up, and bring them together
Coach Johnson obviously worked hard to make it all fit
But this is what we do at this level
Kennesaw has at least five kids from Titans Orange The Dodgers have seven kids who have spent major time in the Wolfpack organization FCA Blueclaws has at least eight kids who have been in the Oakleaf organization
Adding players and making it work is part of the job at this level and some Coaches are better at that than others |

Yeah from what I saw the East Cobb Teams are really good competitive baseball teams. The 3 game pool play strategy was challenging but a good way to see who has dept and who can manage the games. I noticed this weekend that some teams developed strategies on Saturday and came back with different game plans on Sunday, which is what matters since you don't go home on Saturday and the Champions and Champioships are all determined on Sunday. The Game between the Dodgers and Tribe was a good game based on the score. |
