I'm not even sure I worded that right. This may seem long but I am very unsure about all of this. My husband last weekend told me while we were watching his bosses son play in an older league that he wanted one of our sons to try out to play on the Elite Red team in 10 and under next year which is the 9 and under team right now.

I asked him not knowing why he liked the idea so much for more than one reason but us driving an extra few miles for practices is my primary concern. He tried to explain to me why but after seeing Sundays games I thought they were okay but that was it. I mean they did great at times and no so great at others but that is the case with a lot of teams at this age.

He tried to tell me that this team was one of the best last year and the year before and so on and of the benefits of trying out and playing for this team was the ticket as he put it. I did some snooping around a little and talked with some people I knew at the tournament and they said there were no real benefits and they weren't even sure this team even had tryouts. So I asked about other teams who within 45 minutes or so of us that had tryouts and they mentioned other training facilitys. One in the area of the Elite team and the other was in Rockdale county I think. No one could offer me a real reason to make a jump to one of these teams though.

I wasn't that impressed with either of the two at the substate tournament though. I mean they both had some good talent but for the most part were average teams. I just don't know and really am not sure if there are benefits or not. I know if my company name were on a teams uniform that I would want the best team out there possible to represent me. I just want to know the benefits if any.

GREAT question "baseballmommy". Finding a "good" facility that offers good training is a challenge for us all. Much of it depends on your goal for your child based on some demonstrated abilities in the child. AND, some programs & facilities & coaching styles work well form some children and not others.

The kids I know that are now 13, 14, and 15 that play very competitive High School and travel ball have all gone through several programs, coaches, and private instruction to make them the player they now are.

so in general, you'll looking not so much as what it does for the "whole" team but how your child in particular responds to the teaching, training and coaching; and most importantly at this age, that he is having fun.

And of course, you would want the coaches and trainers to have played and or coached at a high level in baseball.

If you're referencing the Elite red team from McDonough area, as their opponent, we have thought of them to be good competition and have seen some kids that have been taught well but of course, we don't know where they received their training.

I guess in short, you really have to do what you are doing, check, ask questions, double check, talk to High School coaches as to where the quality players have been coming from and check some more.

Good luck !!!!

We live in the area (Newton Co)and we have played for some "programs" give me a call at 404-379-5588 and I can help steer you in the right direction. I do not have a 10U team so my opinion or experience will not be in an effort to sell my team.

There is no added benefit for playin for elit team. The only thing you get is a small discount if you use one of their instructors. I will say their instructors do a very good job. If you think they work with there elite teams 1 on 1 that just doesn't happen nothing against them they are runnin a buisness. My advice would be to find the best coached team and go that directin wether it is elite team or not.

I run a training program...so here are my thoughts:

Are you looking at a facility team for training?
Or are you looking to be #1?
Or do you just want something a little better than rec ball?

No matter what you do, take your kid to a place he is going to have fun. As he gets older, find him the best training you can (team up with a facility). As he developes, put him in front of the best competition you can find.

You and your husband should visit several tryouts and speak with all the parents during this time. If you visit enough tryouts, you will find the right fit for you and your player.
