ANNOUNCING
Tryouts will be held on August 4th and 5th for two new 13U travel teams that will practice and play out of Dunwoody Park. These are new teams with no hold-overs from a previous year's team. All roster spots are available.
Both teams will be coached and managed by Tom Bass, former head coach of the 2007 state champion Dunwoody HS Wildcats. As a former HS and college player, Coach Bass brings a keen understanding for the game and how to instruct and motivate young players to do their best. In addition to his high school coaching experience, Coach Bass has coached travel baseball for 10 years, including the current 13U Dunwoody Diablos and Scorchers. Coach Bass brings with him a team of carefully selected and highly experienced assistant coaches to work with the players to achieve the highest possible level of competitive baseball. There will be no dads involved in coaching these teams.
Tryouts will be at Dunwoody Park at 5321 Roberts Drive, Dunwoody, GA 30338. They will be held on August 4th and 5th from 5:30 to 7:30. Players are expected to attend both sessions. The tryouts will be rigorous workouts, so please come equipped with proper attire and drinks.
The teams will be formed immediately and a fall schedule will commence within weeks. The weekly schedule will work around the football player's schedule and will include practices during the week and some competition on weekends in the fall. There will be winter workouts in January and early February prior to the school season. The teams will be off from mid February until late April to allow players to participate in their school's baseball season. As soon as possible, the teams will resume practices and then begin a competitive schedule of weekend tournaments that lasts into July and finish up with a trip to a World Series in Panama City, Florida.

The 13U Diablos will be once again coached by Dunwoody High School's Coach Tom Bass.
During his 18 years as a head coach, Coach Bass amassed a 359-168 record which included a 2007 AAA State Championship. Coach Bass was a 6-time region Coach of the Year, the DeKalb County Coach of the Year, Broward County,Fl. Coach of the Year for every sport, and a Georgia State Coach of the Year. This will be his 10th year coaching travel baseball at this age level. During this time he has won numerous tournaments, World Series, and most importantly, he has prepared his young athletes for their future in high school baseball. Coach Bass is a graduate of Georgetown University, a site where he still holds six pitching records.
Coach will be assisted for the 10th year by Charles Coke. Coach Coke played for Coach Bass at Dunwoody High School and he played his college baseball at Oglethorpe University. |

Here are some answers to some questions I've been getting via email.
1. This is an open tryout. There are no returning players. 2. There are no dad coaches. The team will be managed by Coach Tom Bass and Asst. Coach Charles Coke. Both have over 10 years of experience coaching travel baseball and even more experience coaching school teams. 3. There is no fee for this tryout. You will, however, be receiving 4 hours of expert guidance during the workouts on the 4th and 6th. 4. The fall schedule will depend on how many football players there are on the final roster. If enough players are available for baseball, the team will play a competitive fall schedule. If there are too many football players, the team will workout on Sundays and play few, if any, games during the fall. They'll make up for it in the spring. 5. The team will play at least 60 games and have at least 40 practices during the fall, winter and summer seasons. 6. The team will not be active during the school baseball season, from mid-February to late April. This is to allow players to play for their school teams and for the coaches to coach to be involved with the DHS Wildcats too. 7. The season will end with a World Series event in Panama City Beach, Florida in early July, giving you a short off-season before the next fall season begins. 8. There is a possibility of a second 13U team. We will make a final determination following tryouts.
Remember, tryouts will be held at Dunwoody Park on August 4th and 6th at 6:00. Parents, there will be a short form for you to complete. Please make sure you do that so we know how to reach you following the tryout.
See you on the 4th. |
