It goes to show anything can happen in the crazy world of 9U baseball. Tuesday night the Navigators get beat by the Titans 12-2, then last night they come back and beat the 9U Longhorns 8-7 and the Yankees 9-3. I'm still scratching my head. Tonight you have the semi finals and championship. 5 pm Nav's and Titans in one and Yankees and Longhorns in the other with the winners of both playing for the championship at 7 pm. I would make a prediction but I'd probably be wrong! |

For some reason, kids that age seem to respond differently to pool play games and games in a double elimination tournament where the team has not yet lost, or in games that they know they should win with no problem. It's like they put less pressure on themselves or something, so they don't play as well as they normally would. And if they happen to run up against a hot team, they lose. I've seen it a thousand times. It happened to us just last weekend in the semifinals of the Carrollton tournament when we lost to the Clippers. Not taking anything away from the Clippers, they played a great game, made the plays they needed to and deserved to win. But no matter what the coaches tried, our boys seemed to be going through the motions more than anything, expecting to win just because they thought they should have and it cost them. I guess that's just one of the many lessons that kids can learn from playing organized sports. I just hope they remember how bad they felt when they lost so that they do everything they possibly can to stop it from happening again. |

Not tonight Longhorn vs. Navigators final with the Navigators winning 8-7. Navigators where ahead 8-1 going to the 6th and held on for the win. |

The Longhorns made quite a few errors , however they were unable to hit the starting pitcher for the Navigators they did show some character to score six runs in the top of the sixth. But you have to give the Navigators credit for doing what it took to get the "W". |

Wow. Looks like the Navigators may be the team to beat now in 9U at ECB. Congrats to them on their tournament win. |

I don't think I'd go that far just yet - the Navigators have some pretty bad losses on their record, but that team and staff where pretty fired up last night and unlike most teams where not intimadated by the Longhorns. |

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Longhorns and Yankees have been solid since February. Great job to the Navs this week and I am sure the other ECB teams will figure out what is going on and make the adjustments. |

LOL It wasn't really a serious comment, but I knew it would get some reponses. It isn't often (if ever) that you see both the Longhorns and Yankees lose to another ECB team in the same tournament, so I guess I was just throwing my 2 cents in while I could. I suppose its like poking at an animal while it's licking it's wounds. Something entertaining is bound to happen, one way or another. |
