| SO, what is the latest on legal bats. Are the high school rules for drop 3 bats going to apply to all bats now or what? Rules seem to be changing with the wind. Any help on clarification would be most appreciated. |

| I heard August 1, then I heard Jan 1, then I heard August 1. Then I heard NHSF doesn't even regulate fall ball. So who knows??? We will not really know until the umpires come out to inspect the bats. |

High school is BBCOR only as of the 2012 season. If your bat doesn't have the BBCOR stamp it's not legal for HS play or USSSA. Not sure on the other travel associations right now. |

Basically, your son will need two bats because he will NOT want to use the BBCOR bat for travel ball. |

Whatever they use in high school they will have to use in USSSA.... That is the rule... |

The way your comment is stated is not quite true. You have to consider what age group you're playing. Many high schoolers are still playing 14u ball, which could lead to them needing one bat for HS yet being allowed to use a non-BBCOR bat for travel.
To simplify the discussion, separate the USSSA stamped bats and the BBCOR stamped bats. For a bat to be BBCOR, it can be no more than a drop 3. You will not see any bat with a greater than drop 3 with a BBCOR mark since the drop 3 is a requirement to fulfill the BBCOR guideline.
So, for HS, effective Jan 1, 2012, BBCOR is required, period.
For travel organizations, it currently varies.
For USSSA:
January 1, 2012 14U and Younger Big Barrel Bat (2-5/8 or 2-3/4) must be manufactured by an approved USSSA bat licensee and
1. Have the new USSSA Mark on its taper, OR
2. Be a qualified BBCOR bat, OR
3. Be a wood bat
At this time, the only published requirements for Triple Crown (which still show 2011) are that 15U and older require drop 3 BESR or BBCOR, 14U allows a drop 5 or drop 3 (drop 3 must be BESR or BBCOR), and 13U and below have no restrictions. No word yet on if those restrictions will change for 2012.

Our team used wood and bbcor yesterday. The majority of our opponent's batters used BESR bats. We won 10-0 so I guess that was a mute point

Straight from the rule book. TO BE LEGAL IN 2012 FOR USSSA 14U AND
BELOW, A BIG BARREL BAT MUST BE MANUFACTURERED BY AN
APPROVED USSSA BAT LICENSEE AND (1) HAVE THE NEW USSSA MARK
ON ITS TAPER, (2) BE A QUALIFIED BBCOR BAT OR (3) BE A WOOD BAT.
There are no exceptions to this rule!!! 15U and up follows NFHS rules which would be BBCOR and wood bats. Also, according to the rulebook, 2011 and older model bats with the old USSSA 1.15 stamp will now be illegal to use. |

Feeder league is -5 minimum. U-Trip has no weight restrictions for 14u, though almost our whole 14u team is going with -5 for spring as a stepping stone to the -3's they will have to use at 15u and up. Some might get better results this season with a lighter bat, but it would make it that much tougher to make the transition at 15. |

Are there any restriction on 2 1/4 inch barrel bats for USSSA? I have not seen any 2 1/4 inch bats with the USSSA stamp. |

Still good for batting practice. I just picked up a new DeMarini -3 for $40. For that price, he can use it in the cages for the next few years.

ALL: so what i read from the replies is that if this fall or next spring going forward, and no matter what association a tournament is under, a 13U player can use a BESR drop 3 bat unless its USSSA .
Thats means now this fall and in 2012 any tournament includeing tripple crown , independent , etc, would say OK to a 13U player using a drop 3 BESR.
But then If its 14U or above, now this fall and in 2012 , no matter what association , it will not be legal to use
