As tournament season gets underway over the next couple of weekends (fingers crossed), what bats (non-wood) does everyone recommend to use in cold conditions? Most kids have composite bats that are at serious risk in these conditions, as well as some thinner-walled aluminum bats.
You have a few choices: 1. Use a bat microwavable bat warmer (if tourney allows) so that your million dollar composite bat doesn't shatter. (Most concession stands will rewarm for you) 2. If your kid is REALLY strong you can go with a wooden bat, they are typically drop 3, as long as it has the stamp on it it should be allowed. 3. Go to walmart and buy a cheap $50 aluminum Easton bat that is a drop 10 but won't break in the cold. The sting will hurt if the kid makes real contact so batting gloves are essential with this choice.
