This depends on the kid mostly. I would start with a circle change grip (touch the tip of your index finger and tip of your thumb together, making a circle, and then grip the ball)and tell him to use his normal fastball arm motion. He will end up throwing the ball with the other 3 fingers. He will likely throw the ball all over the place at first but will gain control as he practices. The big key to mastering a change of speed with this is keeping the thumb and index finger together throughout the arm motion.

I keep hearing about "French Change Up" never heard of it before now. Anyone have any information on that grip, I am sure it's similar to all the other change up grips but wasn't sure.

"French Change up"? It might be good to talk about but you would not want to "Go to battle" with it.

Anybody know what this pitch is called or ever heard of this. Pointing and middle finger is off the ball. Just thumb and other two on ball. Release like throwing a fishing rod. My brother learned this pitch from his high school pitching coach and it made him go from being a good high school pitcher to being a county leader. I have no idea what the pitch is really called (what type of change). We always just call it the GB pitch after the coach that he learned it from or the rabbit ears change.

Breamking,

So let me get this straight: you grip the ball ONLY with the ring finger, the pinky and the thumb and release similar to a curveball?

That can't be right.

Ok two end fingers pinky and ring across the seams

thumb on the horseshoe

release like your fly fishing. The guy that taught him this pitch learned it at university of tenn. This coach also did pretty good in the phillies organization. The coach I think coaches a 9yr old team I think. He would be the best to ask about it. It works. I saw my brother show it to a 13yr old last year and it took him a while and he can still not control it good but he was starting to have some success with it. If you interested in his name I am sure he can tell you more. Send me a email and I will give you his name and you can talk to him about it.
