Heard the PC Vipers beat the Astros 6-1 in a practice game last weekend..... Hopefully we'll get to see them play for real in the FC Slugfest in a few weeks.

practice game? anything more meaningless than the score of a game like that.

Practice games are to work on what you need to work on. (Sounds like Yogi Berra.)

I would suspect neither team played like they would in a regular season game, seeing how both teams batted all their players and swapped pitchers out each inning. It was a great time to get out and get some live play after being indoors all winter. The Astros appreciate the Vipers hospitality in hosting the scrimmage. I am sure we will see each other quite often this season.

I'd agree with that Greg. We did the very same thing this past weekend and plan on more. Get the work in, pay attention to little details and shake off the winter cold!! We rotated each inning as well and it's great to allow each the time to work and shuffle in the field as well!! Good luck this season and maybe we will run into one another some as well

Hopefully the weather will be good for next weekend for the Spring Frost. That should be a good tournament to get started with.

old school,
sorry i just checked the board out..but yes nc predators will be better than last year..look at the fall record. It was a whole new team at age 12 and most players had not played together..new coach new team. Ken has done a great job with this team.

The megastars and hurricanes are good teams and draw from a very large area and never lack for talent. This should be a good year for tournament baseball. The one thing i will say is tournaments in NC are a lot cheaper..average cost for a 4GG usssa tourney is about $350

Hopefully it will be a great tourney for all. My wife is already in Ga and as soon as middle school ball ends we will follow..cant wait

if i'm not mistaken didn't the Astros bat all 14 players in this scrimmage game and if so, playing to win certainly was not their motive, however i would bet my blue suit that during a real game they would bat 9 or 10 at most, the outcome would more than likly be far diferent. Whits23,
I wish you well in your transition. I made the migration from TN to GA 4 years ago, so I understand what is ahead of you.

In talking with the Hurricanes coach, they seem to be planning on playing mostly 60/90 tournaments and are not looking to Qualify for the Elite WS because they don't want to be playing 54/80 that late in the season, in trying to get ready for HS.

As for tournament fees, I noticed that football fees and other sports costs were also higher, so it is not limited to baseball tournaments around here.

it's nice to know their are women who understand the game of baseball in the same way as some men do...i must say you hit the nail on the head when commenting on wether or not the Astros were actually playing this game to win or trying to get evryone on their 15 man roster some work. i still stand behind my previous statements where i said the astros would be hard to beat unless they faced one certain pitcher whom i've mentioned several times but put these two teams in a three game series, astros win the series every time. I CALL EM LIKE I SEE EM...

according to the PC Vipers site they lost on a "controversial call" last weekend, any clarifications or are they just crying foul?

Not a meaningless game but a one run loss playing up in a 14u tournament is not bad. Still early in the season though. I say look out for this team when they hit their stride and all players are back and healthy.

Yep, we also lost this evening in the rain 11-9 to a very good 14U Sandy Plains Wildcats.

I am sure it won't be the last time we lose this year.

Infinity,
It was a fly ball down the left field line in the bottom of the 7th that was about 3 inches inside the foul line. Very close. Scored the winning run. It was a great game though. Both teams were challenged like they should have been in a championship game.

Infinity. I can't be politically correct as Mr Lomax.

I say Astros 1. Vipers Zero when it counts.

No need to be politically correct. Just want the truth! Sounds like it was a great game against two very good teams. Since I and many others weren't there, can anyone give us some details of the game?

What does it matter how a team won, or even who won. It was a great 13 U baseball game that 24 or 25 kids experienced that will help them improve their game. Are we now going to comment on umpires calls or unearned runs. What im seeing and hearing is the Astros are getting alot of crap they dont deserve. I know most of the kids and their parents on that team, I havent heard one word from them boasting or bragging. Just let the kids play and improve for next year and the year after and so on and so on.
