Runner on 2nd and 3rd, pitcher spins around and pretends to throw pickoff to 2nd (but doesnt throw it just pretends). The 2nd baseman and SS pretend to botch not covering the bag and both dive trying to catch the pickoff throw that never was. The center and left fielders also dive for it as the invisible ball goes to the fence. The 3rd base Coach sends the runner home...pitcher throws to catcher...out! 3rd base coach looks foolish.

Somebody tried that on us when the boys were 11 and we were playing an extra inning starting with a runner on second. Our runner just stood on base and laughed. Our hitter put one in the gap and we won.
Their coach made his players look foolish.
Very cool. |

B Moser described it well. But it doesn't matter what bases the runners are on as ours were on 1st and 2nd not 2nd and 3rd. The pitcher faked a throw to 2nd, but kept the ball in his glove and then proceeded to drift toward 3rd. Runner that was diving back to 2nd was fooled and got up and started for 3rd. Pitcher that was now in the base line tagged our runner out. It worked once and we looked foolish but didn't work the second time and they looked foolish. The 2nd time when it didn't work seemed to give our guys a real boost and also seemd to let some air out of them. Both were fun the first fun for them, the 2nd fun for us.
Now lets say Good Night John Boy to the trick play. |

To answer your question...he schedules them by the rule, "noone else wanted to play you" and "I thought it would be a good matchup". He also neglected to show the 13U East Cobb Astros on his list eventhough when talking to the Astros parents (at our scrimmage game 2 weeks ago-when they were not on the list), they have been in the tournament for a couple of months. They were told that they would not appear on the list because it would cause teams to avoid the tournament. I, personally, can't wait to get my refund (minus our part of the $8500 he gets to keep) and steer away from Triple Crown from now on.

To Tony's defense, he puts on a good tournament (except for the player awards for first and second that I give him crap about all the time) and TC pool games do not eliminate teams from moving on to the "Elimination Brackets" like a lot of tournaments do.
I personally like TC tournaments and the rules that they play by. I have never had an issue with they way they were ran. |

PVC, Have you just realized that these organizations(Triple Crown, USSSA,AAU,etc.) are a business and need profits to continue providing tourneys for the kids? Did you stop to think that maybe someone else requested the EC Astros Vipers matchup,in hopes of increasing gate sales? Do you really think Tony profited from the rainout? Did you consider expenses for staff hotel, tournament T-shirts,auto expenses, paper expense, etc? All he did was insure a game that everybody wanted to see.You played the Astros in a scrimmage,so why are you upset about playing them in pool play?I think the Triple Crown folks have done a great job in Georgia since taking over for Farnsworth. And I think it is unjust to rip them on this page-- express your concerns personally- they will listen!Good day... |

LOL...Increasing gate sales??? That's hillarious !!! We know exactly who requested the match-up... and it had absolutly nothing to do with gate sales, trust me!!!... great ploy on his part though, doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which team benifits from a pool play match-up... It's PCV by the way... |

Greg, You are correct, no one was eliminated, but one of the teams was sure to play an extra game in bracket play. Not something we wanted to do this early in the year.
Scott, I am very aware that these organizations have to make a profit to continue. But in any business, you have to make your customers happy and provide a product/service that they are willing to purchase. I am also sure that the ECB team hosting the tournament was hoping for elevated gate fees, but at whose expense? They could have waited until Sunday to get those revenues.
We did voice our opinion when the pools came out and I quoted his response. He was given the opportunity to adjust the matchups, and chose to move game time up and have us play first. Does that mean he listened to our opinion?
As far as ripping them on this page...someone asked the question and I responded.
You are correct that we invited the Astros to our park for a scrimmage and we hope to do it again.

For the record, Triple Crown Tournaments at East Cobb are not hosted by an East Cobb Team. That is strictly a Triple Crown event. The gate fee is revenue that goes to offset their cost of field rental.

TC runs good events. Nothing is perfect, much less satisfies all parties' preferences, schedules or whims. The only minor issue I have is I don't much like the 6 innning tournament pitch limit. |
