I'm 6 out of 6 so far. I didn't see Norcross tying SS Blue though. SS Blue's big hitter was home sick. How could I know? |

Let's hear it for pool F. 3 out of 4 teams in the final 8!
Final 4 - 653 Scorpians Bandits Yellow Jackets
Finals 643 Bandits
Winner: which ever one has any pitching left most likely Bandits

Congratulations to the Bandits. What a great way to start the season. You never cease to amaze me with the way you play the game. And thanks to the Slugfest for a well run tournament and on our part some good umpiring. I didn't agree with some of the strike zones but can say that it was consistent so our pitching was able to adjust. We saw some great teams and agree that if some of these players could find their way to the same team that Gwinnett could give us all a run for our money. I guess all of the guys posting can agree with me now that this a real hot bed for 10U baseball. Now for the bad news it doesn't get any easier with the Super NIT in 2 weeks and even tougher teams to contend with. Gosh, I love this game. |

What happened in 12U? One of the teams forfeited. No show? |

The 12U Shamrocks were a no show. Evidently, they somehow double-booked this slugfest tournament and another slugfest tournament in South Carolina. |

Yes, congratulations to the Bandits. Also to the other teams who put to rest the speculation of which teams are contenders.
Biggest surprise was Duluth and their good showing. Same for Sandy Plains for winning their pool. Good to see the Scorpions prove they deserve to be there in the end. 6-4-3 is tough also. But nobody was in the same mindset as the Bandits.
Several other teams did quite well. Some teams just need more time to gel.
Any homeruns?
Your view on what surprised you? |

Gotta love a 27 team tournament this early in the season. I saw a lot of very strong teams that will only get better through out the year. From what I saw by watching the finals yesterday is it came down to pitching. That #12 for the bandits was fantastic! He had a perfect game going into the 4th against 643 until that tiny #16 for 643 got a single to start the 4th. That new pitcher 643 brought in for the last 3 innings looked like he could be a force for them this year. I think he was #55 or #56. Kennesaw who was already good looks even better than last year and the Scorpions looked fantastic as they battled 643 in what i thought was the best game of the tounament. The Yellow Jackets and Duluth also looked very strong and will both win a ton this year. My lord that x-braves kid is huge. He drew a crowd every time he came to the plate against the yellow jackets. If we get competition like this all season it will be one heck of a spring and summer in the 10U division. Congratulations to all the teams who competed and to the Bandits who started the year just where they left off. Most importantly a big kudos go out to a well run tournament for a fantastic cause. I wish more of them were for such good causes like the slugfest! |

Answer to jscoda: It surprised me that there are so many teams that you have to pitch your best pitcher, and play your best game to win. It surprised me that the EC Tigers did not do better. It surprised me that the East Cobb Longhorns did not do better. We played Duluth twice and it surprised me how close they are to being a really good team. It surprised me that Kennesaw could get so excited about scoring one run on the Bandits (You would have thought they won the World Series) It didn't surprise me that there was so much excitement for the final 3 games on Sunday. The park was filled with electricity with some really good matchups. It didn't surprise me that the Scorpions made a run at this thing. It did surprise me that some of the major teams lost in pool play but this could have been a situation where the weaker team was throwing their stud against the major teams bottom tier pitching. I was surprised that the pitching overall was not much better than it was. It never surprises me to see 643 play solid but it did surprise me that the last 2 games of the tournaments that they only scored 2 runs (2-1 against the Scorpions and 0-6 against the Bandits. They are much better hitters than that. It surprised me that we played Kennesaw so early as I feel that Kennesaw was the 2nd best team although them and 643 are both really good. The biggest surprise was a pleasant one for me in that it surprised all of all supporters that our pitching staff and our defense played the way that they played this weekend but it did not surprise me that the hard work and effort that all of the above teams put into this tournament made for a great tournament and a great weekend of baseball. I would almost bet than many more surprises await us at the Super NIT. |

THE 10U CHAMPS: Congrats to the 10U Bandits...still #1. Only 1 run against (unearned)in 6 games. Plus, the Bandits beat 2 of the 3 toughest teams in the tourney (Kennesaw & 6-4-3, missed the Scorpions). Plus, they can hit better!
THE 10U COACHES: I saw a 10U Head Coach stop his boys unbecoming chatter, which was nice to see. I saw tons of encouraging and instruction being given off to the side, and no ugliness. I was most impressed with the Bandits, The Storm, and the 6-4-3 Coaches, but I didn't get to see them all.
THE 10U UMPS: Best one was the home plate ump in the Scorpions/6-4-3 game. A true Professional. I'll bet he's done 1000+ games, and it showed. Overall, the umps were better than most. THE FACITLITIES: Excellent. Loved the overhead netting between the fields.
THE GRANDPARENTS :) PAPA is a true Gentleman, just like all his posts.
There is an effort underway to combine Gwinnett's 10U talent. It's work-in-process. You will get a glimpse of the unfinished project before this season's through. For now, the best we can do is Mill Creek (see 11U and 12U results).

To BMoser: I hope that Gwinnett will at least let us finish this season before they combine. I can imagine that at least 2 top elite type teams could be built with the players I saw. Good luck on this adventure. |

I'm just a booster, and one of their biggest cheerleaders. Always looking for ways to help them along. Sure is fun to watch them gaining traction. Just like the Bandits over the past 3 years. Just need a little more community support. It takes a village.
